Low is the New High Luxury: Michelin-Starred Street Food

One of the reasons we love covering luxury here at Dandelion Chandelier is because the topic is so complex and the very definition of what luxury is eternally evolves. For example, our very name reflects one of luxury’s enduring inherent dualities: luxurious objects and experiences must be perceived as authentic and deeply rooted in the ground – but they must also soar high above our heads, just out of reach, generating desire and acquisitiveness in the hearts of those who behold them.

How to Get a Taste of the Sweet Life at a Candy Museum

Is a marshmallow tsunami lethal? Is it actually possible to be surrounded by too much candy? Is there really such a thing as an ice cream museum? And where’s the best place to experience the new interactive candy galleries that are springing up all over the US like a Willy Wonka fever dream? Here at Dandelion Chandelier, we set out to answer these pressing questions after reading about and seeing thousands of pictures from the new wave of immersive sugar-driven installations – pop-ups that provide the opportunity for lots of cute photos, playing around with brightly-colored toys, and indulging in the luxury of all the sugar that anyone could ever want. In bitter times, sometimes even the toughest among us turn to sweets. Should you start feeling desperate for a mood-uplifting sugar high, here’s a run-down on the most popular ones, and a calendar of when and where you can visit one this year. Just be sure to brush your teeth afterward.

How Did the NoMad Become the Best Bar in North America?

Last October, the NoMad Bar in Manhattan was named #3 on the World’s 50 Best Bars list for 2017, and the best bar on the continent of North America. Given the vast number of swanky watering holes in New York City alone, this is a phenomenal achievement. The judges said, among other things, that in just five short years, the NoMad has become “one of the most essential bars in the city – and now the world, having been crowned Best Bar in North America.” How does a team create such an establishment? Who were the visionaries behind this achievement? And what’s next? Read on, dear reader, read on.

Where are the Best Luxury Pop-up Shops this Holiday?

‘Tis the season for pop-up stores. What’s on tap for holiday 2017, and which ones are worthy of a stop this year, whether you’re planning to buy, or just curious to see what’s happening offline (just to be clear, “offline” refers to a brick and mortar edifice that back in the day was called a retail store). Here’s our Dandelion Chandelier list of pop-ups that are already open or opening soon. Nearly all are in New York City, but some are also in other cities in the US and in London. Not to get you crazy, but one was so exclusive that it’s already come and gone: Chanel’s pop-up, the Coco Club, was open for just one day – on November 12 – and was dedicated to the brand’s Boyfriend watch. The pop-up was at The Wing in SoHo, with three rooms illustrating the value of time, and a numerologist on hand to give personalized readings. C’est la vie. Maybe next year.
