Wardrobe Secrets: This Holiday, Green is the New Red

Juniper, holly, spruce, fir, evergreen, forest, dark billiard, or climbing ivy – it goes by many names. But the smoky, deep, mysterious, earthy shade of green that is showing up in holiday deliveries for many contemporary brands is delicious. For our money, it should totally displace red as the color of the season this year. We first encountered this shade – which looks great on everyone – when perusing the racks at Neiman Marcus. It’s not a shade that will jump out at you online. Even at retail, it’s quiet and shimmering, which is part of what we love. It feels festive, but not showy. Fun, but not loud. Grownup, but not dull. And it’s not shouting “holiday” in a way that will make you feel that you can’t wear it after New Year’s Eve. This is actually a perfect shade for apres-ski that will take you straight through March. And hey, who cares if you don’t ski? You’ll look as if you do, and that’s totally fine.

What You Need to Know about St. Barth’s Right Now

The French-speaking island of St. Barth’s – or to be precise, Saint Barthélemy – has long been a glamorous year-end playground and the destination of choice for the owners of mega-yachts, the fashion industry elite, entertainers, athletes and their entourages. The Leeward Islands tropical paradise is the stuff of dreams. But the 2017 hurricane season was brutal, with a string of named storms wreaking havoc on many parts of the Caribbean, including this lovely island. So what will become of this year’s holiday season? Will New Year’s Eve in St. Barth’s still be the number one place in the world for a glittering celebration? We asked our far-flung correspondents to investigate, and here’s what they reported back. It’s the latest intelligence we have on what you need to know if you’ve planned (or were planning) a stop in St. Barth’s this winter. Of course it could change, but this is what we know for now.

A Luxurious Vibrant Jewelry Garden of Earthly Delights

In the rarified sphere of high jewelry, the highest possible level is bespoke pieces, custom-made for individual clients. Like haute couture, haute joaillerie items are made to order and crafted by hand, with intense collaboration and interaction between the jewelry designer and the client. The items are heirloom quality and — like royal jewels – each one has a story behind it. If you’re operating at this price point, you have the option of working with one of the storied European jewelry houses: Asprey, Bulgari, Harry Winston, Van Cleef & Arpel, Graff, Cartier, Chanel and Dior all offer haute joaillerie designs that are essentially custom-made. An alternative that many sophisticated clients turn to is working directly with an artist who is classically trained in one of these maisons, but now creating work on their own. The advantage of that approach is that you are intimately involved in every step of the process, and you’ll receive highly personalized attention from a skilled artisan. You’ll also be the owner of a piece that is truly one-of-a-kind, created …
