For most of human history, mothers simply carried their infants. Around the 18th century though, European aristocrats who rode around in carriages decided that their children required luxurious littles rides of their own. Designed to be pulled by servants, dogs, small ponies or even in some cases, goats, these tiny carriages were just as ornate as the ones their parents used.
It wasn’t until the Victorian era however, that the modern stoller as we know it came to be. As cities became more crowded, wealthy parents looked for more practical ways to transport and protect their children. The result became known as a perambulator. Prams quickly became a status symbol amongst the wealthy, with Queen Victoria as one of the most well known owners, using them with each of her nine children. And while in many cases the overall styling of the pram has changed since the days of Queen Victoria, the concept has not.
Strollers are still amongst the most practical and safe ways to transport your new bundle of joy. And with everything from clever storage spaces to futuristic pod-like seating to models almost as tricked out as cars (and in some cases even made by car brands), the stroller has come a long way, baby.
Whilst you eagerly await your little one’s arrival, we thought it would be fun to take a little stroll through some of the latest and most exclusive designer prams. Beyond being practical, these bougie buggy’s are luxurious and stylish too. Not to mention, they will certainly turn heads as you saunter the streets.
Without further ado, here are 10 of the most luxurious designer strollers right now.
