When fitness is part of your identity and lifestyle, it makes sense to stay on-trend with the top luxury workout apparel and equipment. Our correspondent Julie Chang Murphy has curated a list of the top trends and the best new luxury workout apparel and activewear collections for fall 2020.
what’s trending in the world of workout and activewear right now?
Can we take a second to mourn gyms? In New York, at least, they are still off-limits. They are forcing people to make do and run in oppressive heat or half-heartedly log in to an at-home workout.
For me, I need the motivation (and potential shaming) of other people in the room to push myself to the limit. Otherwise, I’ll do ten sit-ups and call it a day.

When all else fails, a fake it ‘til you make it approach always gets us moving and sweating again. Here are the the most stylish ways to do it.
The best new luxury Workout and activewear collections
1. Urban Jungle
Camo is the new animal print. Most likely inspired by the necessity of exercising outdoors – in the urban jungle – we think the chic pattern transitions seamlessly to non-work out days too.
1- Update that boring gray sweatshirt with Sundry’s airy knit ($122) in a subtle camouflage swirl.
2- When you’re working out in the summer heat, it’s biker shorts to the rescue. This pair from Nike ($35) does the job.
3- This All Access sports bra and legging set ($68 for sports bra, $98 for leggings) is made with silky-smooth compression fabric. The leggings have been updated with pockets on each side for storing larger essentials like cell phone and keys.
4- This on-trend mask from Carbon 38 ($29 for set of 2) will help keep you safe and cool with a multi-layered filtration system and fast-drying antibacterial fabric.
5- If you really want to camouflage yourself on the city streets, this slick, metallic set from Alo Yoga ($68 for bra, $72 for shorts) will help you blend right in.
6- Vee Collective’s tote ($189) is made with a quilted technical weave and elevated with genuine leather trim.
7- We love Ultracor’s ($325) second-skin fit and this particular camo pattern gives us refreshing, underwater vibes.
8- Stance’s performance socks ($20) are engineered to stand up to high-impact activities with exceptional breathability and premium cushioning for all-day comfort.
2. Pinky Promise
Pastels have been trending for a while and in activewear, rosy and muted pinks are still one of our faves. They’re graceful and tough like ballerinas working on their pirouettes in the studio.
1- Outdoor Voice’s famous colorblocked tech sweat leggings ($98) combine the irresistibly named colors Mulberry, Rhubarb and Provence.
2- You can never have too many retro scrunchies, especially when they’re as soft and velvety as this set of 5 from Kitsch ($12).
3- If you still haven’t tried Lululemon’s buttery soft Nulu fabric leggings ($118), this high-rise version with a pretty cut-out design is a must-buy.
4- We can already see ourselves reaching for this lovely dip dye tank ($79) from Year of Ours again and again.
5- In shades of blush and grays, this mat ($39) is perfect for yogis to get in the zone.
6- Veja’s Condor running sneaker ($160) is consciously crafted with recycled plastic and ethically sourced rubber and looks as alluring as a ballet slipper.
7- This sweatshirt ($200) from Y-3 is a timeless staple and the thick French Terry feels soft and luxurious.
3. Brights
Neons give a natural jolt of energy; it’s no wonder that they always seem to find their way into activewear. While you can always pair them with black, this summer, why not go head to toe?
1- We love this T-back Alala top ($65) because it feels like it is barely there for those sweat-drenched workout sessions.
2- Happy feet! A swirl of bright colors from light pink to orange to aqua on these Air Max 200s ($130) should get you moving (and looking stylin’).
3- We’ll be honest. We might not have the guts to wear this hot pink set from All Access ($68 for sports bra and $78 for bottoms) at the gym, but when we’re working out at home, why not?
4- Can’t pick a neon hue? These color blocked leggings ($145) solve that problem!
5- Legs for days- these tights ($98) from Spiritual Gangster are constructed with a soft and stretchy ribbed performance fabric with perforated detail on the outer legs.
6- This retro backpack ($108) from a collab by Reebok + Victoria Beckham is generously sized for all your workout paraphernalia.
4. Blank Slate
Consider a refreshing palate cleanser of minimalist, monochrome outfits in soft colors like neutral white, gray and blue. You’ll be totally on-trend with the move toward monochromatic matching sets. Which always looks classically chic and effortless.
1- Electric & Rose’s cool marbled sports bra ($98) and leggings set ($118) is ultra-soft and stretchy so you can get into those poses in style.
2- Dagne Dover’s heather gray backpack ($195) is made with neoprene and packed with thoughtful details like a mesh laptop pouch, several interior pockets and luggage strap.
3- Beyond Yoga’s space dyed tank ($66) comes with a built-in bra so you can keep those sleek spaghetti strap lines and matching leggings ($97) are high-waisted for a long, lean line.
4- Alo Yoga designed this New Moon Tank ($48) with airy, dropped armholes in soft jersey. It is perfect for layering over a statement sports bra…or not, if you’re going for that monochrome vibe. Pair with these mesh biker shorts ($62) with a sporty, sculpting Airbrush short overlayer for a bit of modesty and instant cool-girl vibes.
5- With a custom milled satin elastic strap on a slip-on design, the Techloom Bliss from APL ($200) is so seamless, it feels like it becomes one with your feet. And no shoe laces mean one less obstacle to chasing those goals!
6- Part superhero, part designer jumpsuit? This winning ribbed set ($72 for crop top and $104 for leggings) from Year of Ours has us swooning.
5. Equipment
Here are some of the most effective and easiest to use workout equipment to check out right now. We’re partial to their low profile. It can easily tucked away since everyone’s home right now is doing triple duty as a restaurant, school and office!
1- The PowerDot Smart Muscle Stimulator ($199) looks a little scary but it promises pain free electric muscle stimulations designed to increase muscle strength and blood circulation, while relieving soreness. It connects via Bluetooth to an intuitive app that will have you working out smarter, not harder.
2- No more ugly wrist weights- Bala’s version ($49) is designed with smooth silicone covers over individual cast-iron bars with a velcro closure.
3- This ab roller ($30) strengthens your core and tones up the backs of your arms and shoulders. And the handle bars pop off for easy storage.
4- The Theragun wave roller ($149) has 5 different intensity speed settings for a full body massage because who knows when we’ll be getting to a spa again.
5- The classic recess jumprope has gotten a modern upgrade. Tangram’s Smart Rope LED ($80) reinvents the quintessential cardio workout with LED lights that display your fitness data in mid-air as you work out. Sync your sessions with Tangram’s mobile fitness platform. It will help you track and improve your performance with accurate sensors, interval training programs, and competitions.
