House plants are trending as a top gift this year. Our correspondent and plant parent Abbie Martin Greenbaum has curated our luxury gift guide of the best plants and greenery from the top online nurseries right now.
Now trending: plants and greenery as top gifts
What is it that makes plants such appealing gifts these days? Maybe it is because we are all trying to make our indoor spaces feel a little airier after spending so many months inside of them.
Or maybe it is because plants are two gifts in one: a new hobby, and a decoration.

luxury gift guide of the best plants and greenery
1. Bloombox Club
British company Bloombox Club wants to help turn your home into a green oasis. We recommend their Philodendron Xanadu: its name means ‘Winterborn,’ and its arrow-shaped leaves give it a stately flourish.
Or for something a little smaller, we love the Philodendron Scandens, otherwise known as the “Green Sweetheart Plant.” Other suggestions include this atmosphere-setting String of Pearls and this small-but-mighty Areca Palm.
2. Royal Horticultural Society
RHS is the world’s leading gardening charity, striving to enrich communities through greenery and growth. If you want to support their wonderful organization and also take home an equally wonderful plant, why not select their Monstera Deliciosa? Named for the fact that its leaves resemble slices of swiss cheese, this is the perfect plant to give as a gift.
Some of our other favorites are their Prayer Plant, their Boston Fern, and their absolutely show-stopping Ficus.
3. The Sill
Here at Dandelion Chandelier, we all love The Sill! One of the best places to shop for plants in New York City, their selection is unmatched. Pick up this gorgeous Pink Anthurium, which has the same vibrant floral aesthetic as a gorgeous bouquet, but is actually a long-lasting houseplant.
Other favorites include their best-selling ZZ plant, the pet-friendly Bird’s Nest Fern, and this super-cute Echeveria succulent.
4. UrbanStems
Urban Stems doesn’t just offer beautiful flowers – they have an incredible catalog of plants to buy, too. The Fiddle, named for its violin-shaped leaves, is a definite crowd-pleaser.
Or you might be interested in The Monet – which resembles the painter’s legendary lily pads. We also love The Bosco (a ZZ plant, named after the Italian towers), and The Cally, which is a gorgeous white calla lily.
5. Greenery Unlimited
New York-based Greenery Unlimited aims to be the “Future of Plants.” And it shows that they put their unique combination of science and design into every pot they sell.
The company offers many eye-catching flora, but here are our four favorites to get you started: the Bird of Paradise, the Ficus Audrey Tree, the Dracaena Lisa Cane and the Aglaonema Silver Bay.
6. Bloomscape
From Bloomscape, you’re going to want to grab this Parlor Palm. Its an easy-to-care-for plant that will add a flourish to any room.
Another great option is the Mini Money Tree, which also makes for a perfect desk plant. But if you’re interested in something a little taller in stature, the Bamboo Palm and the Schefflera Arboricola are definitely the way to go.
7. Pistils Nursery
Portland, Oregon’s beloved plant shop Pistils Nursery has been around for almost twenty years, and is still a fantastic place to shop for all your favorite green things.
We highly recommend their lovely ZZ Plant, as well as their easy-growing vine plant Argyraeus. Two more, for those of you looking to expand your at-home gardens, are this Sansevieria (or “Starfish”) and this petite Staghorn Fern.
8. Terrain
Check out this stunning Faux Split Leaf Philodendron from Terrain. It looks so much like a living Philodendron, you would never know the difference. That is a great option for someone looking for a low-stress gift.
And if you’re looking for something live, Terrain of course has plenty of those to offer too. Our favorites are their Snake Plant, their Aloe Plant, and this pleasantly chaotic String of Bananas.
9. Horti
Horti is first and foremost a plant subscription service, ready to offer you incredible plants every single month, delivered straight to your door. But if you’re interested in starting a little smaller (we get it! It can be a big commitment to care for new plants each month), they do have some adorable small plants for purchase as well.
Whether you opt to try their Pilea Peperomioides, their Crispy Wave Fern, their Stromanthe Triostar or their Satin Pothos, you’ll be off on an amazing horticultural adventure.
10. Botanique
Botanique is open and ready to ship. It’s impossible to choose favorites, but we really do love their Fittonia and their Asparagus Fern.
But you also can’t go wrong with their Pilea Peperomiodies and their Maiden Hair Fern. All four plants come in gorgeous planters, and would make excellent gifts or additions to your home.
