the setting
Town is on Upper Main Street in Edgartown. It’s right near the supermarket and the bike trail, and about a 10-minute stroll from the waterfront area.
Making it a convenient spot whether you’re in a car, a bike, or on foot. It’s easy to find a parking spot (which is a big deal during high season in Edgartown).
On balmy nights, there’s ample outdoor seating and a lively crowd on the restaurant’s stone terrace.
We also love the whimsical and cheerful outdoor statues on the restaurant’s front lawn, which are a great preview of what’s inside.
the vibe
The restaurant is a relative newcomer to the island. A long-time resident opened Town Bar & Grill in 2019 with the aim of creating a spot to hang out with friends and family with a playful and summery groove.
The restaurant’s interior has a lot of personality: vibrant pops of color, retro and vintage decor, cool light fixtures and nods to island life on the Vineyard and elsewhere.
We loved the witty and humorous elements of the decor. Even more, we loved that the crowd on the multiple times that we visited was eclectic and highly diverse.
The diners and the bar crowd look like the people who spend time on Martha’s Vineyard every summer. You’ll see all types here – which is still somewhat rare in Edgartown – and totally fantastic.
the food
What about the food? Dear reader, we give it two thumbs up. The grill-style menu features pasta, seafood, steaks, burgers and bar bites. So if someone is on the Keto Diet and someone else is in the mood for wings and a beer, it’s all good.
We can vouch for the Caesar salad, which we ordered on multiple occasions.
The burgers are also first rate. Next time we go, we’re trying the pulled pork. And the bacon-wrapped meatloaf. And the waffle fries.
As of this posting, the dessert menu is seasonal, and changes daily.
the drinks
Town has eighteen draft beer lines and a full bar menu of craft cocktails. You can order shots and beer, a Scorpion Bowl, or a nice glass of red. The prices are not crazy, and the pours are generous.
the loo
We don’t always cover the restrooms when we share our thoughts about a restaurant. But in this case, we can’t resist. Spoiler alert: if you want to be surprised, stop reading now.
While you hang out waiting your turn, you can have a laugh or two. Or leave a message on the chalk board.
And you will have to wait, dear reader. Because on the walls of the bathroom – once you’re in – you’ll find a collection of 45’s on the walls that you’re going to want to investigate.
Motown is our home town, so we found this idea delightful and irresistible. Somewhere on this wall, you may find your old childhood jam.
the bottom line
There’s something for everyone at this playful and chic dining spot – definitely include it in your plans when you’re on the island for a sweet summer night out.
