10. Fruits, Vegetables at the Whitney
Regular readers of Dandelion Chandelier will know that we’ve been obsessed lately with art about food. And now there’s a new exhibit at the Whitney Museum of American Art to feed our desire for more. In Fruits, Vegetables; Fruit and Vegetable Salad, an untitled work by Darren Bader (b. 1978) stands alone in the gallery.
Fresh fruits and vegetables—described by the artist as “nature’s impeccable sculpture”—are presented as formal objects on pedestals. Before they become overly ripe, they’ll be chopped, sliced, shaved, and diced into a salad to be served to visitors. It sounds like a kind of secular communion, and we can’t wait to join in – January 15 – February 17, 2020
