November is a month of remembrance, with Armistice Day and Veteran’s Day being celebrated. travel in november 2019

In the spirit of the month, there are plenty of things to be thankful for in the world of travel in November.  The start of ski season out west coinciding with Thanksgiving, for one, and the openings of the new West Hollywood Edition, The Standard in the Maldives, Puku Ridge camp in Zambia and the new luxury Cour des Vosges in Paris. But we must admit that we are especially excited and thankful for the return of one of our favorite resorts – Eden Rock is back following an almost two year closure due to the 2017 hurricanes.  Pack your bags, people.

food and drink in november 2019

For many of us, Thanksgiving Day is the Super Bowl of home cooking.  And thankfully, there are plenty of food and wine events happening around the world this month to get us warmed up for the big event.  Highlights include the return of the St. Barth Gourmet Fest, the Dijon International Gastronomy Fair and the Big Sur Wine and Food Festival.  On top of that, there’s a slew of new cookbooks including Roasts  by Laura Mason and the return of NYC Craft Beer Festival.  Forks in the air, people – it’s almost go time.

The speed machines of the air, land and sea will be on display this month in Abu Dhabi, Miami and Gran Canaria, to name just a few.  Highlights include the return of Formula 1 stateside with the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, the RORC Transatlantic Race that closes out the Royal Ocean Club’s racing season, Florida’s Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show and the Milano AutoClassica Winter Edition.  And don’t forget the first ever RM Sotheby’s and Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Sale.  Strap in tight, because it’s gonna be a fast and furiously good one.

fitness, wellness and sports in november 2019

Fitness and sports in November is all about the classics: from the New York City Marathon to the World Tennis Finals – from the Melbourne Cup to the iconic football rivalry match-ups going on all month including three NFL division rivalry games on Thanksgiving.  It’s the perfect moment for some good old fashioned spectator sports. But if getting in on the action is more your thing, there’s Wanderlust in Melbourne and plenty of Turkey Trots to go around (and help you burn off your holiday meals).  Game on.

fashion, art and design in november 2019

If you haven’t kicked off your holiday shopping yet, we hope that November’s Fashion and Design calendar will get you in the mood to get started. This month is filled with chic art shows like Artissima, Salon Art and Design and Art021, as well as the return of New York City Jewelry Week to get your creative and gift giving juices flowing. So far, our top pick for gift inspiration is the yellow gold, diamond, ruby and sapphire-set Rolex Saru GMT up for auction at the Geneva Watch Auction X.  Are you listening, Santa?

pop culture in november 2019

The countdown to holiday blockbusters is on this month.  There are a slew of new movie arrivals aspiring to be Oscar nominees like The Irishman from Martin Scorcese and The Report starring Adam Driver.  On the small screen there are two new arrivals in the streaming business hoping to compete with Netflix and its season 3 debut of  The Crown.  Of course, if you are ready to full on celebrate the holidays, you will find a little bit of that too as both A Christmas Carol  and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas hit the stage.   So get ready to watch, listen and stream on as you try your best not to open December’s advent calendar just yet.

the arts in november 2019

In the arts, November is the official start of the holiday season. In addition to iconic and beloved performances of works like NYCB’s The Nutcracker,  the month will see the return of the Southbank Centre Winter Festival in London.  But it’s not all about the holidays, the visual arts will see blockbuster openings, including Yayoi Kusama: Every Day I Pray for Love in New York, TeamLAB’s Borderless in Shanghai and the Art Institute of Chicago’s Bauhaus in Chicago: Design in the City.

what else is going on in november 2019?

This month starts out with All Saint’s Day on the 1st, which honors of all the saints, known and unknown.

Election Day in the US is on the 5th, so don’t forget to exercise your civic duty and vote.  The 11th is Veteran’s Day in the US as well as Armistice Day commemorating the end of WWI.  We are grateful for the service of all veterans and those currently serving.

Whether you plan to spend the day with friends and family or are spending the long weekend away, Thanksgiving is celebrated in America on the 28th, along with many beloved traditions: for the 93rd year, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will take place in New York City.  This year the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has collaborated with balloon specialists to create a floating artwork titled “Love Flies Up to the Sky” to join the classic balloons of Snoopy and Tom Turkey.

Thanksgiving weekend will also see lots of football, including a Detroit Lions game in the NFL on the 28th. There will be lots of food and drink, family gatherings and expressions of gratitude.  And then we hit the mall for Black Friday on the 29th!

The weekend of celebration continues with the annual Le Bal des Débutantes on the 30th where 20 or so of the world’s most glamorous young women converge on Paris for the most high profile Debutante ball in the world.

By the close of the month, the holiday season will have officially begun. Of course, no one will wait until then to start decking the halls: all month long, holiday lights and decorations will be installed in the glittering cities and charming villages of the world.

Wherever November takes you, we hope it leaves you feeling thankful.
