You would think that after an eventful September, the fashion and design worlds would slow down – but no. October offers a plethora of fairs, conferences, auctions and events.
They range from the UXDX Conference to design weeks in both the Netherlands and the US to contemporary art shows like Frieze London.

US and Europe
In honor of Pierre Hardy’s 20th anniversary, Barneys New York is reissuing some of the designer’s greatest hits – including “The Blade” stiletto – in a capsule collection this month.
Shown at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2007, Celebration is a fly-on-the-wall chronicle of Yves Saint Laurent’s preparations for his final collection. Following its debut, Saint Laurent’s business partner, Pierre Bergé, blocked its release, reportedly because he did not like the way he’s portrayed. Bergé’s death in 2017, nine years after the designer’s, means that the film – lightly edited – is available to the public – Oct 2
Nordstrom is finally opening a women’s fashion location in New York City. Located near Columbus Circle, the 363,000 square foot flagship store will feature seven restaurants and a spa. There will also be an exclusive shop in the shoe department with Christian Louboutin. Talk about putting your best foot forward! – Oct 24
The New York City Jewelry & Watch Show returns to Manhattan at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea for its fifth edition. Over 90 dealers will exhibit an array of antique and estate jewelry, vintage timepieces and modern collections – Oct 25 – 28

The doors have opened on Tiffany & Co’s first-ever brand exhibit at the Fosun Foundation in Shanghai. There are over 350 pieces on display—ranging from the first Tiffany Blue Box to the world’s largest and rarest yellow diamond, the Tiffany Diamond. Almost a third of the items have never been available for public viewing until now – through November 10, 2019
Berlin-based Ximon Lee, an LVMH Prize finalist and H&M Design Award winner, will present at the 16th annual Shanghai Fashion Week – Oct 11 – 14

Also in the world of major art auctions in October 2019, the San Francisco Fall Art & Antiques Show is on. It’s the oldest international art and antiques show on the West Coast – Oct 3 – 6
Nearly thirty shops will open their doors for the annual La Cienega Design Quarter Sidewalk Sale, packed with vintage, contemporary furniture and lighting, fabric and wallpaper remnants, custom designer floor models, pillows and hardware. The UXDX Conference is based around the UXDX model, which integrates UX into the Development loop by breaking down the barriers between development, design and research teams. The annual event takes place in Dublin and is meant to help attendees understand how to help teams deliver successful products more quickly – Oct 7 – 8
