While tennis tends to steal the spotlight during the month of September, with events like the US Open finals, there’s plenty of other sports action happening around the world.  Cycling’s Tour of Britain, the start of the NFL season and the kick off of the Rugby World Cup in Japan are also taking place this month, to name a few.  If you don’t want to just watch, but prefer to get in the game yourself, join one of a number of marathons taking place around the world; hit up a yoga session at Bhakti Fest; or take a boxing inspired HIIT class in the Flatiron area if NYC.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and to raise awareness and funds, the Prostate Cancer Foundation is hosting a PCF Pushup Challenge: participants do 10 push-ups for every $20 they receive in sponsorship funds

California’s Bhakti Fest celebrates the devotional paths of yoga, Kirtan (sacred music) and meditation.  This year marks the event’s 11th year – Sept 25 – 30

From Tony Robbins and Pitbull is the newly opened in NYC is GRIT BXNG, featuring 50-minute HIIT classes that combine boxing, strength training and cardio on the treadmill.  The twist?  This studio features a full liquor bar that will serve you mimosas or cold brew drinks after class, so make sure you have some functional and chic workout gear ready

2. best events in running this September 2019

The most beautiful marathon in the world may be the Jungfrau Marathon in Switzerland. The mountaintop finish is legendary, and the panoramic views at 2,100 meters above sea level aren’t soon forgotten.  If you sign up, be sure you’ve got the right running gear to keep you comfortable – Sept 6 – 7

Looking for a slightly less serious marathon? Consider the 35th annual Marathon du Medoc.  In addition to French wine at the aid stations, runners partake in a bucolic loop course through vineyards, accompanied by 8,500 new drinking buddies dressed in hilarious costumes.  Expect everything from entertaining acrobats at the start to all-you-can-eat oysters, cheese and ice cream in the last 4K – Sept 7

The course for the 46th annual BMW Berlin Marathon winds through the historic heart of the city.   Last year Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge set the new world record and cut his own personal best by well over a minute finishing in less than two hours and two minutes – Sept 29

The US Open Finals take place at Arthur Ashe Stadium – Sept 6 – 8

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic will headline Team Europe at the Laver Cup in Geneva; they’ll face a team of players from the rest of the world in the third year of the competition – Sept 20- 22

In one of the best events in golf in September, the Walker Cup will see 10 male amateurs from the USA vs. team from Great Britain & Ireland at the Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, England – Sept 7 – 8

The Solheim Cup is a women’s biennial golf tournament featuring teams representing Europe and the United States. It is named after the Norwegian-American golf club manufacturer Karsten Solheim, who was a driving force behind its creation.  This year’s events will take place at the Gleneagles’ PGA Centenary Course in Scotland – Sept 13 – 15

The 9th ever Rugby World Cup will be held in Japan.  This will be the first time the tournament is to be held in Asia, and outside the traditional heartland of rugby union – Sept 20 – Nov 9
