You can style up and take your locks from daytime to the cocktail hour. Or go for something classic and elegant as a finishing touch. Or just have fun, and show your love for your favorite designer – or just your own initials.
You can choose embellished bobby pins, hair clips, or even bedazzled word barrettes (so you can literally make a statement if you like). The trick to styling these to prevent looking too juvenile is to go with multiples, and go for texture, color and shine so that it’s clear you’re making a statement. Not just wearing your daughter’s barrette because you’re having a bad hair day.
We’ve segmented the hair jewelry that recently caught our eye into four categories: sparkling silver and crystal; pearly white; bold and gold; and floral. Somewhere in this mix is the perfect luxury hair jewelry for you right now.
1. Silver and Crystal
Gucci GG Hair Clip. This GG hair clip is crafted in Italy from a combination of silver crystals and brass ($490). The brand’s Palladium-tone crystal hair slide is made in Italy. It has delicate links that form a lattice around the house’s archival ‘GG’ logo, and is encrusted with shimmering crystals ($650).
Saint Laurent’s hair clips are crafted from antique silver-tone metal, and encrusted with light-catching crystals for a statement finish ($495).
Miu Miu’s crystal-embellished barrette sports sweet bow embellishments. Crafted in Italy from brass, this piece has a clip-fastening option for a secure hold.
We love the playful personalization possibilities of this LELET NY Alphabet Hair Clip Set. The silver-tone hair slides come in every letter of the alphabet. They’re entirely handmade and encrusted with sparkling crystals. The base of each one is ridged to ensure it stays securely in place.
And it’s hard not to love Isabel Marant Lightning Bolt hair slide. It’s made from polished silver-tone metal and finished with glittering crystals ($245).
2. Pearly White
14 / Quatorze’s ‘Baby’s Breath’ collection is handcrafted by Japanese artisans to resemble clusters of Kasumi grass. The spokes of each pin are fashioned to mimic the blooms’ characteristic wispy beauty. They’re made from malleable gold-tone metal and finished with tiny freshwater pearls. Pretty!
Cult Gaia’s set of ‘Ria’ hairclips are made from marbled resin that has the same luminous effect as pearls. The round charms are set on curved barrettes, and finished with silicone sleeves to keep your hair from catching. Wear one or the other, or both at the same time ($90).
Scandi star jewelry designer Sophie Bille Brahe’s ‘Croissant Grace’ hair clip is the perfect finishing touch to both modern or classic looks. It’s made from 10-karat gold and set with a cascading row of glossy freshwater pearls ($860).
LELET NY’s set of three gold-tone pearl hair slides are each made from gold-tone brass and topped with clusters of freshwater pearls ($280).
Shrimps embellished Antonia hair clip channels designer Hannah Weiland’s penchant for playful retro accessories. Its crafted from imitation pearl, set on a gold-tone clip hardware and accented with white beads ($125).
A statement feature of Completedworks pearl-embellished gold-vermeil hair slide is the delicately crafted clip, which is decorated with a twisted accent featuring a cluster of elegant freshwater pearls, and then finished with squared edges ($272).
3. Bold and Gold
In classic Gucci style, this embellished hair clip from the brand’s Fall-Winter 2019 collection is bright, bold and impossible to ignore. It’s made in France and features the brand’s logo set in sparkling crystals ($750).
Balmain Paris Hair Couture’s hair pins are made from supple gold leather, and backed with velvety nubuck that won’t snag or pull. It’s secured by a gold-tone pin engraved with the house’s iconic logo ($360).
Oscar de la Renta’s gold-tone faux pearl hair clip could be an elegant finish for a hairstyle designed to complement a strapless neckline. Cast from gold-tone metal in a leaf shape, it’s encrusted with three faux pearls in acorn-shaped settings.
Versace’s gold and silver-tone hair slide uses mixed metals to highlight the theme of Ancient Greece, employing the Medusa motif. Similarly, Alighieri’s The Moonlight Dance gold-plated hair pin is inspired by the works of the poet Dante. Each piece is designed to be a little ‘battered and imperfect’. Hand-cast from gold-plated bronze, this hair pin also resembles classic Grecian and Roman styles ($435).
4. Florals
British florist Philippa Craddock designed the stunning church flowers at the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Happily for us, she’s now introduced lifelike floral hair pins. Craddock looks to historical botanical drawings to inform the creation of her realistic faux floral hair pins. Her yellow Poppy hair pin is an exquisite example of her craftsmanship ($190).
Timeless Pearly’s floral-print beaded hair clip is decorated with red and white spherical beads with a lovely floral pattern. The beads are set by hand in France on a silver-tone metal clip ($190).
Finally, for a truly stand-out look, consider this Rosantica by Michela Panero Daisy faux-pearl V hair clip. This gold-tone metal hair clip nods to the label’s fascination with the natural world. It’s made in Italy with clusters of faux-pearls acting as petals, with a clip fastening that helps it slide easily into your hair ($206).
