Hiking in the Alps, glamping in the Rockies, or sunbathing in Positano. It’s time to let go.
For the slightly more sedentary, there’s an epic wave of films, books, podcasts and television shows to discover. That’s if you’re not too busy basking in a summer music or dance festival performance.
Here’s our Dandelion Chandelier list of the best luxury events and true luxury experiences in July 2019. It’s our luxury calendar of what to do in July.
Luxury Calendar: Best Events in the World in July 2019
Travel in July 2019
This month’s travel calendar offers plenty of opportunities for summer adventures, with new openings in hotels, theme parks, cruise ships and even a new luggage line. Our favorites include the opening of the Mandarin Oriental CastaDiva Resort & Spa on the shores of Lake Como, the christening and debut of The Spirit of Discovery, the reopening of Hawaii’s legendary Kalalau Trail and the launch of a family friendly luxury waterpark, Jungala, in Mexico. And if you are planning to indulge in any or all of these new spots, you might consider a new bag from Travel Pro’s new Crew Expert Collection that will keep you organized for the long haul and beyond.
Food and Drink in July 2019
It’s quite possible that the very best part of summertime may be the food and drink. And there is no shortage of either this month. There’s the Singapore Food Festival. And the world’s largest food festival, Taste of Chicago. There can be no greater luxury than the combination on offer at Korea’s Daegu Chicken and Beer (Chimac) Festival. But our personal favorite in July is the deliciously sweet National Cherry Festival.
Plane, Yacht and Auto Events in July 2019
When it comes to the speed machines, there’s no such thing as a summer slow down. The month of July features fierce competitions across sky, sea and land. Must-see events include the Goodwood Festival of Speed; the Candy Cup in Newport, RI; the German Grand Prix; the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh and the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac. Buckle up for some fast and furious fun.
Luxury Fitness and Sports Events in July 2019
Whether you’re looking to observe or get in the game, July is a perfect month for fitness and sporting events. While the Women’s FIFA World Cup will likely dominate much of the first half of the month, there are plenty of other major spectator events happening too including the Tour de France and Wimbledon among many others. But if you’d rather get out there and play, on tap this month are fitness and wellness classes at the Surf Lodge in Montauk’s new Sanctuary and the return of Wanderlust Festival in London. All that’s left is for you to choose between sidelines and center court.
Fashion and Design Events in July 2019
It may be summer for many, but in the worlds of fashion and design, everyone is looking ahead to the fall and winter. Haute Couture Week in Paris, the dazzling Haute Joaillerie show and Berlin Fashion Week all point toward future seasons and emerging trends. On the design front, notable happenings include Market Art + Design in the Hamptons, Art Santa Fe and the East Hampton Antiques & Design Show, in addition to some top-notch auctions from both Christie’s and Sotheby’s.
Entertainment and Pop Culture in July 2019
Music festivals like Splendor in the Grass, drops from indie favs Of Monsters and Men, Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and the final season of Orange is the New Black. Plus Jake Gyllenhaal on stage in Sea Wall / A Life and a whole bunch of new podcasts including the return of Revisionist History. Are you kidding? We really don’t want to spend July indoors – but we might have to. Too much to miss on stage and screen otherwise.
The Arts and Culture in July 2019
From Tanglewood to Ravinia to SPAC, in July some of our favorite orchestras and dance companies move into their summer homes, making for new and more relaxed ways to enjoy their magic. This month also marks some wonderful classical, opera, chamber music and jazz festivals including the Verbier Festival in Switzerland and the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy. In visual arts, July marks the arrival of some big names in museum exhibitions that will give your favorite beach some serious competition. Among them? Olafur Eliasson In Real Life at the Tate Modern and Implicit Tensions: Mapplethorpe Now at the Guggenheim.
