Filmfest Müchen returns for its 37th year. American independent films are shown alongside German feature films and TV movies. There are new cinematic discoveries from around the world. And international, European and German premieres – through July 6
On the roster of new movies in July 2019, of course there’s a superhero film. Though not as star-studded as The Avengers, there’s still Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jake Gyllenhaal. Spider-Man: Far From Home should keep superhero fans on the edge of their seats this summer – July 2
Of all the new movies coming in July 2019, this is the one we’re most keen to see. In The Farewell, a family decides to keep their beloved grandmother in the dark about her cancer diagnosis. Instead, they plan an impromptu wedding as an excuse to get the family together – July 12

Disney’s The Lion King gets a star-studded live action remake this summer. Donald Glover is the voice of Simba. Beyonce voices Nala. And Chiwetel Ejiofor is the voice of the evil Uncle Scar – July 19

Thomas Hayden Church and Sarah Jessica Parker return for Season Three of HBO’s tragi-comedy series Divorce – July 1

Orange is the New Black debuts its seventh and final season – July 26

Mindy Kaling’s 10-episode limited series Four Weddings and a Funeral on Hulu is inspired by the 1994 film of the same name. It looks to revive and redefine the traditional romantic comedy in a new format for a new generation – July 31

There are two new plays in July 2019 from the team of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Following two sell-out seasons at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, Jesus Christ Superstar returns to London for a limited season at the Barbican Theatre – Previews July 4, Opens July 9
Also opening this month from the pair is Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the London Palladium. It’s been 50 years since its original release as a concept album – July 11
One of most highly-anticipated new plays in July 2019 is in New York. For the first time since 1979, Free Shakespeare in the Park presents Coriolanus. The Bard’s blistering drama about a general voted into power by a populace hungry for change, and the unraveling that follows, feels all too relevant – July 16
Richard Wright’s groundbreaking novel of oppression, freedom and justice, Native Son, comes to life at The Duke on 42nd Street. The story takes place in the South Side Chicago of the 1930’s. Bigger Thomas struggles to create a place for himself in a world whose prejudice has left him with few opportunities. After taking a job in a wealthy white man’s house, he unwittingly unleashes a series of events that violently and irrevocably seal his fate – Previews July 17, Opens July 28

The Wireless Festival in London’s Finsbury Park kicks off the slate of music festivals in July 2019. This year, the event will feature performances by Cardi B, Migos and Tyga – July 5 – 7
Of the music festivals in July 2019, Spain’s Mad Cool Festival is relatively new. And so far it’s been getting great reviews. This year’s headliners include The National, Robyn, Bon Iver and The Cure – July 11 – 13

Latitude in Suffolk’s Henham Park is more than just a music festival. With DJs hidden in the woods, colorful sheep roaming the fields, opera on the lake, film debuts, clowns under canvas, local ales and a spacious children’s area, there’s something for everyone. Oh, and there’s a full program of music, too, including Lana Del Ray and George Ezra – July 18 – 21
One of the most popular annual music festivals in July 2019 is Splendor in the Grass. The festival returns for its 19th edition to North Byron Parklands, Australia. This year’s acts include Childish Gambino, SZA, Chance the Rapper and Tame Impala – July 19 – 21

5. best new podcasts in july 2019
Of all the new podcasts coming in July 2019, true crime lovers will probably most enjoy This Land. It covers every kind of true-crime interest imaginable. An 1839 assassination and a 1999 murder are the key pieces to a 2019 Supreme Court case that is currently deciding the fate of five Native American tribes in Oklahoma.
Another of the new podcasts in July 2019 is Man in the Window. Its a deep dive into the origins of the Golden State Killer, Joseph James DeAngelo, who was arrested after 30 years last spring.
Revisionist History returns for its fourth season to reexamine the overlooked and misunderstood moments from the past.
For something a little lighter, you could try It’s a Mess from Miss Peppermint, the Broadway star (and runner-up from season 9 of Ru Paul’s Drag Race). Miss Peppermint will give advice on a wide range of topics together with rapper Cazwell.
