luxury calendar: best events in the world in june

Summer is officially here and with it the Royal Ascot, Pride Month, festivals of all kinds (music, dance, art, food, ideas, and creativity), hot movies, the return of rosé, fashion awards and of course, glamorous parties.  There’s so much to love about June!

travel

June marks the official start of the summer travel season.  If you are looking for an urban adventure check out the new J.K. Place Paris or Mr. C Coconut Grove in Miami.  If you are ready to hit the beach, try the Italian inspired Baglioni Resort in the Maldives or a trip to Chablé Maroma in the Riviera Maya where you can mix jungle and sand.  And if at all possible, take a stop in Heathrow to get a taste of British Airways new Elemis Spa.

food and drink

Just when we thought we were about to get our summer bod back, here comes June with delicious temptations.  Several major cities and posh summer retreats are hosting “Taste of” events, including Amsterdam, London and Martha’s Vineyard to name a few.  There’s also The Vero Beach Food & Film Festival and the  Aspen Food & Wine Classic too, so be sure to try to squeeze those workouts in early, then relax and enjoy all the good things that June brings.  After all, the tastes of summer won’t linger for long.

planes, yachts and autos

The month is coming in hot with luxury events in June including air shows and yacht and car races galore, along with car auctions, too. Our favorites include the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta in Sardinia and the Val-d’Or Air Show in Quebec.  There’s also the Formula One Grand Prix de France and the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance too.  And if you are on the market for a new ride, Barrett-Jackson and GM will auction off the last ever built C7 Corvette during the annual Northeast Auction at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.

fitness and sports

The month of June has us running full speed into summer, with lots to see and do, including unique marathon races such as the Big Five Marathon which couples running with a classic safari vacation.  You will also find plenty running across the pitch in France when the  FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off this month.  The running theme continues, with three major horse races taking place, among them the Royal Ascot.  Other major sporting events taking place in June include the 119th edition of the US Open and the first ever The London Series in which the Red Sox will take on the Yankees at London Stadium.

fashion and design

The start of summer generally signals a slower pace and a lighter schedule, but not when it comes to luxury events in June in fashion and design.  June kicks off with some great new exhibitions, including Balenciaga and Spanish Painting at El Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza.  June also marks the return of Art Basel and the annual CFDA Fashion Awards, as well as design weeks in San Francisco and Barcelona.  This month also might be your only chance to bid on a guitar used by David Gilmour – guitarist, singer and songwriter of Pink Floyd.

entertainment and pop culture

The month of June is the official kick off for summer entertainment.  There will be a number of blockbuster movies debuting including X-Men: Dark Phoenix starring Sophie Turner while on the small screen we will see some oldies but goodies returning, among them, HBO’s star studded hit Big Little Lies.  June also is a big month for the music industry, new album drops, festivals and big concerts, including the outset of J. Lo’s It’s My Party Tour tour and the return of Glastonbury Festival.  On the stage you will find many of your favorite tv/movie actors, such as Martha Plimpton in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Sweat.  Lastly, if you plan on hitting the road for a summer road trip, we’ve found a couple new podcasts to help get you through the drive.

the arts and culture

June’s Arts calendar looks both forward to future and back to our past.  You will find brand new creations by Mats Ek at the Paris Opera, while the New York City Opera marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots with the world premiere of Stonewall.  Meanwhile at Moscow’s Garage Museum you will be transported to the future with The Coming World: Ecology as the New Politics 2030–2100.  At Singapore’s National Gallery you can explore how past artwork has inspired social changes at Awakenings: Art in Society in Asia 1960s – 1990s.  If that’s too much back and forth for you, you can always enjoy there here and now at the Paris Jazz Festival.

thought provoking gatherings

Though the lazy days of summer have begun to creep in, there’s no need to turn your brain off just yet: there are major gatherings to provoke thought and conversation on the luxury calendar in June.

At the annual Bilderberg meeting – being held this year in Sierra City, California – business and political leaders from North America and Europe will gather to discuss the economy. The 66th annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, focusing on the creative and marketing communications, entertainment, design and tech industries, is June 17 – 21. Speakers include Shonda Rhymes, Kerry Washington, Alfonso Cuarón and Lorne Michaels.

The Aspen Ideas Festival is June 20 – 29. And Bloomsday is June 16: Leopold Bloom’s fictional journey through the streets of Dublin, as imagined in James Joyce’s epic Ulysses, takes place on June 16, 1904. Joyce fans celebrate his work and life annually on that date. And in Capri the Le Conversazioni festival, celebrating important figures in international culture starts on June 28 – this year’s theme is Happiness.

glamorous parties

There are also lots of opportunities to experience glamour, beauty and grace on the luxury calendar in June, including the annual white- tie Swan Ball in Nashville, held at Cheekwood Mansion to benefit the Tennessee Botanical Gardens and Fine Arts Center.  Now in its 57th year, the fundraiser is the Grand Dame of the city’s social calendar – June 8.

The Conservatory Ball at the New York Botanical Garden is June 6. This year’s theme focuses on the upcoming summer exhibition Brazilian Modern: The Living Art of Roberto Burle Marx.

The New York-based nonprofit God’s Love We Deliver hosts its 19th Annual Midsummer Night Drinks on June 15 at the historic Samuel Parrish house in Southampton, NY.

And the star-studded 26th annual Life Ball, one of the most dazzling HIV/AIDS fundraisers in the world, takes place at Vienna’s City Hall – June 8. Guests will include Katie Holmes, Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Keala Settle and burlesque artist Dita Von Teese.

If you’re still swooning over the royal birth last month, keep the glow going by wishing Queen Elizabeth II all the best on her official birthday celebration, Trooping the Colour, which includes a military parade on The Mall in London – June 8. Over 1400 officers and soldiers will be on parade, together with two hundred horses and over four hundred musicians from ten bands and corps of drums. But will The Duchess of Sussex and baby Archie be there?

the rest of the month

But despite all the fancy occasions, fear not. This is still definitely a month full of opportunities for flip-flops, grilling outdoors, hanging out on the beach and taking to the water. So we also note that National Donut Day is June 7th, Father’s Day is the 16th, and the Summer Solstice (the first day of summer) is the 21st, as is the UN-decreed International Yoga Day.
