What are the top events in food, wine and craft beer in May?

This month’s Food and Drink Calendar is filled with opportunities for treating yourself while giving back to others.  From the California Winemasters in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to the Taste of Tribeca, benefiting lower Manhattan’s public schools. It’s always more fun to indulge when you’re doing good for others.

Other fun happenings in May include the annual Nantucket Wine and Food Festival,  Paris’s Fête du Pain. And the return of the UK’s biggest food fest, Foodies FestivalBon appetit!

Frankfurt’s Green Sauce Festival celebrates the concoction of seven herbs native to the region with its 12th annual festival. Over 50 different green sauces will be on offer, to be consumed atop boiled eggs, potatoes and even sushi – May 11 – 18

The 24th annual Fête du Pain takes place in Paris. Which baker will win Best Baguette of the Year?  The event features over 100 bakers. No less than 3,000 French traditional baguettes will be baked per day – can you imagine how heavenly the fragrance must be? It’s BYOB – Bring Your Own Butter. – May 13 – 19

Foodies Festival, the UK’s biggest food festival, returns to Syon Park in London. Guests will find mouth-watering treats. Plus the launch of a brand new Musicians Against Homelessness music stage – May 25 – 27

After a quiet off-season, Nantucket Island wakes up for the Nantucket Wine and Food Festival. Annual highlights include the Harbor Gala, with wines from forty exceptional wineries paired with bites from forty chefs. Another treat is “Great Wines in Grand Houses” — tastings and wine-pairing dinners hosted in Nantucket’s grand historic private homes – May 15 – 19

Flavors of Denver is an annual fundraising event that brings 20 of the area’s top chefs together. Each one offers signature cuisine to a limited number of guests in an intimate and exclusive setting. The chefs create a personal menu and prepare a four-course meal, complete with beverage pairings, for a table of 10 guests – May 16

Benefiting arts and enrichment programs at local public schools PS 150 and PS 234, the annual Taste of Tribeca is an outdoor culinary festival in lower Manhattan – May 18

Now in its 37th year, the annual Paso Robles Wine Festival brings together more than seventy producers for winemaker dinners, live music, and open-house events at wineries. The Grand Tasting presents local wines by style, including Bordeaux-style, Rhône-style, and non-traditional blends – May 16 – 19

The Perfect Wine Cellar: The Ultimate Guide for Great Wine Collectors ($100) imagines an ideal wine cellar. It’s a fantasy collection of the most expensive and prestigious wines from around the world – Publication date: May 21

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So it only makes sense that it finally gets the cookbook treatment it deserves with Breakfast: The Cookbook ($49.95). The collection of hundreds of morning meals ranges across kitchens around the globe – Publication date: May 29

Sotheby’s Wine will conclude its spring season with Finest & Rarest Wines Featuring the Château Mouton Rothschild Versailles Celebration Cases and The Pristine Cellar of Dr. Daniel Salzman – May 4

California Winemasters is a perennial Wine Spectator Top 10 Charity Wine Auction at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank.  The event showcases 50 international chefs and 75 of California’s finest wineries. “Winemasters” has raised more than $30 million in support of the mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation – May 18

5. craft beer festivals

In 1988, Congress declared May 7th as National Homebrew Day.  Now celebrated the first Saturday of May each year, thousands of home brewers craft identical recipes. Then at noon Central time, they raise a simultaneous toast – May 4

Savor in Washington DC will feature 90 breweries providing samples alongside perfectly paired small plates. It’s a double treat for beer fans and foodies alike – May 17
