Best Luxury Travel Destinations in the Month of April

Where’s the best place to go in April? Dear reader, there are so many great choices, it’s very hard to narrow the list. Still, we’ve done it. Here are our top 10 recommendations for the best luxury travel destinations in the month of April.

what are the best places to go in April?

Where will April take you? Where should it? Spring is in the air, and a visit to a cosmopolitan city seems to be in order: view wonderful art, stroll in a park, and have a meal or a cocktail at a chic outdoor cafe (we’re thinking Paris, Toronto, New York and Brussels).

Want something a bit more bucolic? You could head to Japan for the cherry blossoms. The Netherlands for tulip season would be lovely, as would springtime in Savannah, Georgia.

Feeling the need for adrenaline-fueled adventures? Namibia and Botswana are temperate in April, as is Morocco. On the other hand, if you’re ready for some beach time, Fiji has excellent scuba-diving and gorgeous resorts.

It’s all waiting for you. It’s April! Let’s go.

top 10 ideas for luxury travel in the month of April

1. Morocco

Visit Morocco with little to no worries about spring showers: you can tan and windsurf in Essaouira, or ride a camel on the golden sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. The hillsides will be bursting with almond blossoms.

Marrakech is ideal in April; visit Musée Yves Saint Laurent, a museum housed in a striking geometric building filled with the late designer’s most influential and personal work. Next door is the spectacular Jardin Majorelle, which Saint Laurent and his partner, Pierre Bergé, bought and restored in the 1980s. Oberoi has opened its third African property here: a lakeside resort surrounded by citrus orchards. And the Royal Mansour has a 6,450-square-foot pool flanked by seven air-conditioned cabanas.

2. Brussels

Brussels is another destination where the grass gets greener and the rain is at a minimum right now; enjoy sightseeing and antique shopping in the Sablon district, or tour top chocolate shops, making a stop to see Belgium’s oldest chocolaterie, Neuhaus.

Brussels, Belgium

3. Kyoto

Kyoto, Japan celebrates the very brief cherry blossom season in April; visit the Heian Shrine to take in the vibrant red, pink and white gardens mid-month. Predictions for 2018 suggest that the flowers will arrive on March 28, with the peak viewing taking place from April 3-11.

4. The Netherlands

For beautiful rolling landscape scenery, head to the Netherlands, where tulips are at their peak. Amsterdam is wonderful, but lesser-known towns like Delft, Leiden, Utrecht and Groot-Zundert (the birthplace of Van Gogh) are completely charming and will enrich your luxury experience with the Dutch.

5. Savannah

Savannah, Georgia, nicknamed the “hostess city of the South,” is an ideal destination this month (full disclosure: my mother was born and raised there). Head over to Augusta National to follow the golf and enjoy the scenery – and the scene – at the Masters.

6. Namibia

Visit the largely uninhabited country of Namibia, which has more than 300 days of sunshine a year. Head to the Skeleton Coast or to the Namib Desert, where the red sand dunes provide incredible views and dramatic lighting at dawn and dusk.

Namibia

7. Botswana

Experts say that the best months to visit are from April-October, during the dry season, because it offers the best game-viewing.

Botswana

8. Fiji

Fiji is home to some of the world’s most spectacular scenery and scuba diving. Now is a great time to go: last month, Six Senses debuted on Malolo Island. Set on a private beach, the boutique property features a spa and other wellness offerings (including yoga, meditation, and nutrition and sleep counseling), plus a restaurant with ingredients sourced from the resort garden.

9. Paris

April in Paris. Enough said. Just go. Experience the traditional rituals of spring. Spend an afternoon whiling away the hours and people-watching at an outdoor cafe.

Paris

10. Toronto, Canada

You already know that Canada is all that: Drake, Ryan Gosling, Justin Bieber, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau all have ties there. In April, the weather will be fine and it’s the perfect time to explore the city’s cultural and culinary offerings. This spring, the Museum of Contemporary Art will move into a century-old former factory in the Junction Triangle.
