So in addition to Easter hampers and other treats, we’re showcasing the chic chocolate eggs of Easter 2019. Here are our picks for the most beautiful luxury Easter eggs in the world this year.

where are the most beautiful luxury Easter eggs this year?

In researching how to have a luxurious Easter this year, we fell down rabbit hole. Literally. And discovered that in Europe, many grand hotels, pastry chefs and chocoliatiers celebrate this holiday just as they do Christmas.

With show-stopping desserts that are (almost) too pretty to eat.

High-end chocolate boutiques, confiseries (candy shops), pâtisseries, and 5-star hotels create limited-edition over-the-top Easter eggs. Some are meant to amuse, others are geared toward children and families. And some are truly works of art (with price tags to match).

In French, Easter eggs are oeufs de Pâques. And the tradition of window-shopping in Paris to admire the vast array of treats is called faire du léche-vitrine. Implying that one has to resist the urge to lick the displays.

In England, in addition to Easter hampers and other treats, there are also chic chocolate eggs.

At time of renewal, forgiveness and hope, Easter seems to bring out a playful and inventive side in the world of confections. Here are the most striking, unusual, inventive and delectable Easter eggs and desserts we could find this year.

1. Pierre Marcolini

This Belgian chocolatier with retail stores in Paris, London and Brussels has created chic large Lovely Heart Eggs – 49€.   The large eggs contain 30 small eggs with flavors specially created for the season. The heart symbols are made of white chocolate, the base is your choice of either milk or dark chocolate. Sadly, these are available in-store only. But the brand’s website is filled with other luxurious gift ideas that can be purchased online, like an elegant box of 36 small Easter eggs.

3. Cyril Lignac

For Easter 2019. Cyril Lignac goes for stark sleek simplicity. His limited-edition egg (35€) is  available in milk and dark chocolate. Available now for pre-ordering, and available in-store from March 19 to April 28, 2019.

4. Claridge’s

London hotel Claridge’s Limited-Edition 2019 Easter Egg comes in both milk and dark chocolate. Hand-made using Valrhona chocolate, the Easter egg has salted caramel gull’s eggs hidden inside. It comes wrapped in black and white foil inspired by the checkerboard marble of the hotel’s Art Deco foyer. As a finishing touch, the egg is tied with a black satin bow and enclosed in a Claridge’s jade gift box. £55

5. Le Chocolate Alain Ducasse

Available for purchase online starting March 21, 2019 and designed by Pierre Tachon, the Artistic Director of Ducasse Paris, the highlight of this year’s collection is The Easter Bunny (£34). Its geometric shape reflects the signature design of Le Chocolat Alain Ducasse; a cascade of small almond praliné eggs hides inside.

But there’s also a spectacular stand-alone egg. The outer shells of the Layered Easter Egg (£34), eventually peel away to reveal tiny eggs made of chocolate, crêpe lace and praliné.

6. La Fabrique Givrée

La Fabrique Givrée in Paris has fashioned an Easter egg the likes of which we’ve never seen before: trompe-l’oeil frozen eggs. The maison is a specialist in frozen pastries and craft ice creams, so it shouldn’t be such a surprise. These adorable frozen pastries are made of Madagascar vanilla parfait, a soft almond biscuit, crispy praline and Indian Alfonso mango sorbet. To make their presentation even more perfect, La Fabrique Givrée recycles organic egg shells used to make the ice cream, and stores the frozen eggs inside. They’re available in-store starting March 21, 2019.

7. Le Bristol

For the Hotel Bristol in Paris, pastry chef Julien Alvarez has created a work of art inspired by the delicate ceramics of Puglia, Italy. His 2019 limited-edition egg (€110) is coated in pure white cocoa butter resembling enamel, which is punctured by a series of indentations that form the hotel’s signature letter “B”.

8. Ritz Paris

The 2019 Easter egg at the tony Ritz Carlton Paris opens to reveal an edible teacup containing a gilded key (the signature emblem of the historic hotel). The presentation is complemented by a Florentine cookie, chocolate-dipped shortbread and a madeleine. For remembrance.

13. Hôtel Brach Paris

Designed by Philippe Starck, the new Hôtel Brach Paris in the 16th arrondissement opened last fall. It has its own retail patisserie, managed by pastry chef and winner of the Meilleur Ouvrier de France Yann Brys. The property’s lobby is decorated with totems and sculptures. So perhaps not surprisingly, the hotel’s first Easter chocolate is a quirky interpretation of the African masks that decorate the common areas and individual hotel rooms.

14. Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme

Continuing that theme, for the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme limited-edition chocolate egg, pastry chef Jimmy Mornet pays tribute to Native American culture. Inspired by a trip to Arizona, the chef has chosen to decorate his showcase Easter treat in feathers and natural colors as an homage to the Hualapai tribe. The base of the confection is made of dark chocolate. The feathers on the headpiece are made of milk chocolate. Inside, there are miniature eggs with milk chocolate Piedmont hazelnut praline.

15. La Maison du Chocolat

Meanwhile, La Maison du Chocolat is featuring Easter eggs based on African masks.
