The Met Costume Institute Gala

The Met Gala is always the first Monday in May. This year, it’s May 6, 2019. The co-hosts for the evening are Gucci’s Alessandro Michele; Lady Gaga; Serena Williams; Harry Styles and Anna Wintour. The splashy black-tie party celebrates the opening of Camp: Notes On Fashion.

Visiting the exhibit is compulsory for those who love fashion. Featuring over 200 fine art and fashion objects, the contents of this year’s exhibition will trace the origins of “camp” from the 17th century (specifically the court of Versailles) to the present day. It’s all framed by Susan Sontag’s seminal 1964 essay Notes on “Camp.”
