the top spring shoe trends for spring summer 2019
The spring-like weather on the East Coast this week has us feeling light on our feet, setting the scene as we bring you our edit of our favorite Spring 2019 footwear trends.
There is something for everyone whether you seek comfort, decadent glamour, or a combination of both. These statement shoes will infuse any Spring outfit and equally important, your outlook, with boldness and a sense of playfulness.
Take a bow
The classically feminine and graceful accent takes center stage this Spring. Marc Jacobs presented them chunky and voluminous. They’re demure and dainty at Rodarte, and crisp and classic at Prada. Monse went with a languid, alluring tie. We can’t think of a prettier way for our feet to step out of winter hibernation.
Fancy feet
These are the shoes we might have dreamed of wearing as kids while acting out glamorous fantasies with our Barbies. With feather trims and rhinestone embellishments, these styles by Dries Van Noten, Burberry, Prabal Gurung, and Christopher Kane are unapologetically decadent and opulent. Go ahead and indulge your flights of fancy this spring. Your 10-year old self will be proud!
Kick up your heels
Shoes can be an architectural marvel, and these breathtaking balusters bring an air of modern eccentricity to your ensemble. Jacquemus featured stacked candy-colored spheres. Balmain presented shoes with origami folds and abstract translucent heels. And at Loewe, you’ll find slingbacks with perhaps the most primordial shape of all- an egg.
Top of the world
The 70’s platform is back and we are embracing its dizzying heights. Not only are they infinitely more comfortable than stilettos, these platforms by Miu Miu, Chloe, Michael Kors, and Kate Spade are the perfect vehicle to showcase eye-catching colors and prints. We also love pairing them with statement socks or stockings for a slightly subversive vibe.
Not your dad’s sneakers
We said at the start that there’s something for everyone this season. If comfort is paramount, you’re in luck because the stalwart “Dad sneaker” trend is still going strong. This season, however, they’re getting an upgrade to “Cool Dad.” With new lace treatments as shown in Off-White’s collection, Comme des Garcon’s added hardware, and Acne’s neutral (but not boring) color combos, these designers show that a bit of maximalism goes a long way.
Not your mom’s sandals
When we’re not decked out in bows, feathers and rhinestones, the clunky comfort sandal grounds us in reality. They might take some fortitude to pull off, but you’ll be rewarded with happy feet. You’ll also achieve peak man-repeller fashion status. Anna Sui’s Teva update is playful, with charming color-blocking and pattern mixing, Michael Kors’ version elevates with an abstract, animal-like print, and Claudia Li’s mix of leather and braided straw feels substantial and summery at the same time.
That’s our quick walk through the top spring shoe trends you need to know now. What’s your favorite?
