Our Luxury Calendar provides a comprehensive overview of the top events unfolding around the world every month. Some are micro-luxuries (like a really good book) and others are on a grand, epic scale. As we polish off our research we always dream a little dream about the entries that most intrigue or excite us – the ones we most passionately want to be a part of. If schedules and money were no object, and we could do anything we like, here are our top picks in the world of luxury events in February 2019. How about you?
our top picks in the world of luxury events for February 2019
It’s hard to narrow the list down to just the top 10 choices, but here goes.
we want to hear:
The new podcast Aria Code, hosted by Grammy winner Rhiannon Giddens. Courtesy of New York classical music radio station WQXR and the Metropolitan Opera, Giddens breaks down one aria per episode, with the help of opera experts from around the world.
we want to see:
The fabulous exhibit Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. Spanning the period from 1947 to the present day, the show traces the history and impact of one of the 20th century’s most influential couturiers, and the six artistic directors who have succeeded him – February 2- July 14
The 11th edition of the RORC Caribbean 600 from Antigua, in which more than 50 super yachts, maxis, multi-hulls and a vast array of racing and cruising yachts will convene for a regatta that launches from Nelson’s Dockyard- February 18
The Academy Awards. Of course, we love the red carpet fashion show. In addition, this year marks the first time a streaming service has ever received a Best Picture nomination: Netflix’s Roma amassed 10 nods in total. But our hearts are in Wakanda, as Black Panther is nominated for Best Picture of the Year – February 24
we want to read:
The Source of Self-Regard: Selected Essays, Speeches, and Meditations by Toni Morrison, a new nonfiction collection of essays, speeches, and meditations on society, culture, and art, spanning four decades. It’s divided into three parts: the first is introduced by a powerful prayer for the dead of 9/11; the second by a searching meditation on Martin Luther King Jr., and the last by a heart-wrenching eulogy for James Baldwin. – Publication date: February 12
we want to check out:
Roppongi Crossing, a triennial held by the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo; the show offers something of a scene report on the Japanese contemporary art world. This year’s theme is “Connexions.” The name refers to how artists are attempting to find points of unity in an increasingly fractured cultural and political landscape. More than 20 artists have been selected for this year’s edition – February 9 – May 26
The annual White Turf competition, held over three weekends in St. Moritz. The iconic event features skiers being pulled by horses over a frozen lake. In addition to the horse races, the event features gourmet cuisine, live music and contemporary art exhibitions. Our friends tell us to expect lots of champagne on ice, along with winter sunshine and stunningly beautiful, snow-capped mountains – February 3, 10 and 17
Modernism Week in Palm Springs, California. The annual celebration of mid-century architecture and design will feature over 350 events this year – February 14 – 24
we want to check into:
Kachi Lodge is the first permanent luxury lodge on Bolivia’s otherworldly Salar de Uyuni salt flats. The collection of six “glamping”-style domed guest tents feature double beds, en suite bathrooms and clear walls for uninterrupted views of the high-altitude landscape and starry night sky. During the day, guests can enjoy scenic hikes, village visits and exploring the ruins of ancient civilizations. Opening this month.
we want a taste of:
The annual Montréal en Lumière winter festival, which celebrates performing arts, gastronomy, music, theater, dance and more. 500 renowned chefs, wine producers and other culinary speakers will be featured. Personally, we’re most excited about the Festival of Quebec Cheeses – February 21 – March 3
