What’s your dream Christmas tree? One of the joys of the holiday season in New York City is that if you can dream it, somewhere in the city you can find it. For example, we spent an enjoyable hour at Bergdorf Goodman this week. There we found a dazzling array of truly unique luxury Christmas ornaments. With these, you can create a one-of-a-kind Christmas tree that expresses your inner spirit in some truly surprising ways. Sure, they’re expensive (most are $50 each). But you can always curate your collection one ornament – and one year – at a time.
After spending just a bit of time in the dazzling Christmas shop on the 9th Floor of Bergdorf Goodman, we can guarantee that somewhere out there, there’s at least one unique luxury Christmas ornament to suit everyone.
We like to buy one or two really special ornaments a year. Over time, that leads to owning several treasured mementos, while maintaining a manageable storage situation (and a sane amount of spending).
However, having seen this year’s options, it’s going to be extremely difficult to choose just one.
We can envision at least a dozen different tree themes that could be crafted from the unique luxury Christmas ornaments we found at just this one store.
1. The Fashionista Tree.
The unique luxury Christmas ornaments: a Bergdorf’s store credit card, a Chloe handbag, a little white dog, and a chic shopper in a fur-trimmed jacket.
2. The Beachy Tree.
The unique luxury Christmas ornaments: a bottle of suntan lotion, mermaids, seashells, and various ocean creatures, including a squid.
3. The Boozy Tree.
A bottle of Kentucky bourbon, a bottle Canadian whiskey, hot toddies, and a flask. Plus a couple of bottles of champagne, a Bloody Mary, margaritas and vodka bottles.
4. The New York Interfaith Tree.
The unique ornaments: New York landmarks like the Central Synagogue, the Wall Street sign, a subway station sign, a Metrocard and a fortune cookie. Also sighted: a menorah, a pizza box, the Flatiron Building, and One World Trade Center.
5. The Favorite Foods Tree.
Avocado toast, a black-and-white cookie, a grilled cheese sandwich, a 6-pack of craft beer, and red and white wine.
6. The Money Tree.
It’s all about the Benjamins. And the gold bars.
7. The Breakfast at the Diner Tree.
Bacon, pancakes with maple syrup, and replica of a local diner. We feel sure that somewhere in there, there’s a cup of Joe, too.
8. The “I Love Times Square” Tree.
The unique luxury Christmas ornaments: A red double-decker tour bus, a 5th Avenue sign, a pair of black Chuck Taylors, and a Times Square subway sign. We also saw a slice of thin-crust pizza.
9. The New York’s Finest Tree.
A tribute to the hardworking heroes who are keeping the city safe this holiday.
10. The Christmas at the Club Tree.
D.J. Santa is in the house.
11. The Dessert Tree.
Ice cream cones, cupcakes, ice cream sandwiches, donuts and chocolate bars. Plus a mug of hot chocolate.
12. The Sporting Life Tree.
The unique luxury Christmas ornaments: a soccer ball, a basketball, a pool table, lacrosse sticks, a football, and a frosty mug of beer.
Plus a baseball mitt, a karate uniform, and a football helmet. But where’s the big-screen TV?
13. The Salty Snacks Tree.
Potato chips and pretzels! Or tacos and tequila. Your call.
14. The Epicurian Tree.
Sushi, caviar, vodka. Say no more.
15. The Night of the Iguana Tree.
You could be one of the very few people in the world who has one of these.
There you have it! So many options to rock Christmas your way this year. Just don’t drop anything, people.
