Fitness and sports in November is all about the classics: from the New York City Marathon to the World Tennis Finals – from the Melbourne Cup to the iconic  football rivalry match-ups going on all month.  It’s the perfect moment for some good old-fashioned spectator sports. But if getting in on the action is more your thing, there’s the SweatCon Rally in San Diego and plenty of Turkey Trots and quirky marathons to go around (and help you burn off your holiday meals).  Game on.

This month is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, so expect to see typically clean-shaven men in the office, on the fields or on the ice sporting mustaches this month in support of Movember

The last event of the thoroughbred racing season, the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, heads to Churchill Downs; the annual two-day series of Grade I Thoroughbred horse races was first run in 1984 and is always held in North America- Nov 2 – 3

After stops in New York and Boston, SweatCon Rally heads to San Diego where you can partake in not just one but 3 30 minute classes at participating studios back to back – Nov 2 – 3

The TCS New York City Marathon hits all five boroughs; as the largest marathon in the world, it’s one of the World Marathon Majors – there were over 50,000 finishers last year, and almost 100,000 applicants for this year’s race – Nov 4

The Melbourne Cup, Australia’s most prestigious annual Thoroughbred horse race, is a 3,200 meter race for three-year-olds and over, conducted by the Victoria Racing Club on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria; it’s the richest “two-mile” handicap in the world, and one of the richest turf races. Held on the first Tuesday in November, the event is known locally as “the race that stops a nation” – Nov 6

The 2018 MLB Japan All-Star Series is the 12th edition of the MLB Japan All-Star Series, a best-of-six series between the All-Star team from Major League Baseball and, for the second time in series history, the national team, Samurai Japan – Nov 8 – 15

The ATP Tennis World Tour Finals men’s tennis tournament, the season-ending event for the best singles players and doubles teams on the 2018 ATP World Tour, will be played at the O2 Arena in London- Nov 11 – 18

Back in 490 BC, legend has it the Greek messenger Pheidippides ran from Marathon to Athens to deliver news of the Athenian victory at the Battle of Marathon. Upon his arrival, all those miles later, he died of exhaustion. The Athens Marathon lets 13,000 marathoners follow his footsteps, over challenging hills and into the finishing arch at the white marble Panathenaic Stadium – Nov 11

With a fast course that winds through the city’s historic downtown, past the stunning Philadelphia Museum of Art and along the scenic Boathouse Row, the Philadelphia Marathon is one of the country’s premier running events, attracting 30,000 runners and 60,000 spectators; this is the race’s 25th anniversary – Nov 16-18

In college football, several classic rivalry games take place, including Yale at Harvard and Stanford at California – Nov 17

The inaugural edition of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas finals take place – Nov 18 – 24

With a start time of 2am local time to beat the heat, the Standard Chartered Bangkok Marathon makes for a hot and sweaty evening when 2,500 runners line up at the dazzling Grand Palace, Bangkok’s most famous landmark and home to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha – Nov 18

The 59th World Cup of Golf takes place at Metropolitan Golf Club in South Oakleigh, Australia – Nov 22 – 25

Thanksgiving Day brings three NFL division rivalry games: the Chicago Bears at the Detroit Lions; the Washington Redskins at the Dallas Cowboys; and the Atlanta Falcons at the New Orleans Saints – Nov 22

The classic NCAA college football rivalry games roll on, with Michigan at Ohio State; Auburn at Alabama; and Florida at Florida State – Nov 24

The Necker Cup returns to Necker Island and is a six-day/five-night Pro-Am tennis event hosted by Sir Richard Branson, traditionally held on Necker Island – Nov 24 – 29

The Japan Cup is one of the most prestigious horse races in Japan and takes place at Tokyo Racecourse in Fuchu, Tokyo – Nov 25
