You would think that after an eventful September, the fashion and design worlds would slow down. But no.

October offers a plethora of conferences and events, ranging from user experience conferences to design weeks to contemporary art shows. Plus new coffee table books, covering everything from watches to haute couture to royal weddings. It’s all bundled up here, just like you in your chic new fall coat.

French brand Sandro is hosting a pop up on Greene Street in Soho, New York City. The shop will feature their latest collaborations: The Muppet Show x Sandro and Helly Hansen x Sandro

A new exhibition called Contemporary Muslim Fashions at San Francisco’s de Young Museum explores how modest dress codes for Muslim women are interpreted differently around the world – through Jan 6

The Fashion and Textile Museum in London opens Night and Day: 1930s Fashion and Photographs which explores the day and evening styles of the decade, complemented by photographs of the stars who championed them – Oct 12 – Jan 20

The Museum at FIT presents Pink, its twentieth academic symposium, which will explore the significance of the color pink in fashion, art, and culture. Pink provokes exceptionally strong feelings of both attraction and repulsion, yet it is increasingly being regarded as cool and androgynous, powerful and political – Oct 19

Fashion meets tech at San Francisco Fashion Week – Oct 20 – 28

Martin Margiela: The Women’s Collections 1989-2009 ($55) is a breathtaking survey of 20 years of fashion designs by Martin Margiela – Oct 23

The New York City Jewelry & Watch Show returns to Chelsea in Manhattan at the Metropolitan Pavilion for its fourth edition.  Over 90 dealers will exhibit an array of antique and estate jewelry, vintage timepieces and modern collections – Oct 26 – 29

Art Taipei is Asia’s longest running art fair, connecting the forefront of art from around the world to explore global art trends while focusing on divergent art forms – Oct 26 – 29

Canada’s international fair for modern and contemporary art, Art Toronto, returns for its 19th year – Oct 26 – 29

ARTBO, the international art fair of Bogotá, brings together galleries, curators, artists and the general public from Colombia and abroad – Oct 26 – 29

Design Conferences and Events

The ADFF Short Films Walk (SFW) connects 12 SoHo design showrooms and the Architecture & Design Film Festival for one fabulous night in New York. For the event, ADFF curates a selection of short films about architecture and design to be screened at each showroom – Oct 3

The UXDX Conference is based around the UXDX model, which integrates UX into the Development loop by breaking down the barriers between development, design and research teams.  The annual event takes place in Dublin and is meant to help attendees understand how to help teams deliver successful products more quickly – Oct 3 – 5

Design Week Mexico is the country’s leading platform for design and architecture. Since 2009, it has curated and managed a varied program of exhibitions, architecture pavilions, installations and conferences – Oct 11 – 15

Celebrating the important role that design plays in all aspects of daily life is National Design Week in the US.  The annual event is held each year in conjunction with the National Design Awards, Cooper Hewitt’s largest and most visible education initiative. It culminates with the National Design Awards Gala benefit and awards ceremony – Oct 13 – 18

Auctions and Antiques

Christie’s celebrates Frieze Week in London with four auctions of exceptional work from across the 20th and 21st centuries including Thinking Italian (Oct 2);  Post War and Contemporary Art Evening (Oct 4), headlined by Gerhard Richter’s Schädel (Skull) ; Un/Breakable (Oct 2); and Post War and Contemporary Art Day Auction (Oct 5)

The collection of beloved entertainer Robin Williams and his wife of over 20 years, film producer and philanthropist Marsha Garces Williams, will be part of a dedicated auction at Sotheby’s New York, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit charities championed by the couple. Creating a Stage: The Collection of Marsha and Robin Williams will showcase film and entertainment memorabilia: autographed scripts, awards, props and wardrobe associated with projects across Marsha’s and Robin’s careers – Oct 4

Nearly thirty shops will open their doors for the annual La Cienega Design Quarter Sidewalk Sale, packed with vintage, contemporary furniture and lighting, fabric and wallpaper remnants, custom designer floor models, pillows and hardware. These stores are normally open only to designers, architects, collectors and celebrities, and pieces go fast – Oct 5 – 6

Bringing together over 70 premier vintage retailers and private dealers from both coasts and beyond, A Current Affair is back with the best vintage clothing, accessories, and jewelry – Oct 13 – 14

See over 55 dealers selling everything from rare collectible pieces to more functional 20th century furniture, plus posters, quirky lighting, Berber rugs, ceramics and glass – all arrayed around the ground floor of mid-century architect Ernö Goldfinger’s only Brutalist school at Midcentury East – Oct 14

In what is set to be one of the most hotly-anticipated highlights of the 2018 auction calendar, Sotheby’s and Pierre Bergé & Associés will host Pierre Bergé:  From One Home to Another, featuring the sale of the extraordinary contents of the various homes of the successful businessmen and aesthetes Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent.  Proceeds will benefit foundations close to Bergé’s heart – Oct 29 – 31
