Our top picks in the world of luxury for October 2018

Our Luxury Calendar provides a comprehensive overview of the top events unfolding around the world every month. Some are micro-luxuries (like a really good book) and others are on a grand, epic scale. It’s great fun to compile, and as we polish off our research we always dream a little dream about the entries that intrigue or excite us – the ones we most passionately want to be a part of. If schedules and money were no object, and we could choose the top ten experiences in the luxury sphere that we’d personally love to partake of, here’s what they’d be for October 2018. WE WANT TO HEAR:

As many artists as possible at the Austin City Limits Festival, returning for two weekends with Paul McCartney, Travis Scott, Arctic Monkeys and Metallica, among many others – October 5 -7 and October 12 – 14

WE WANT TO SEE:

The World Premieres of new works by Michelle Dorrance and Jessica Lang during the American Ballet Theater’s Fall Season; we’d like to start on opening night, which will include a Gala performance dedicated to the works of female choreographers – October 17 – 28

The 11th exhibition of contemporary art at the Palace of Versailles; the Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto will invest the gardens of the estate of Trianon with art, architecture and performance – October 16 – January 20, 2019

The U.S. premier of If Beale Street Could Talk at the Apollo Theater in Harlem; directed by Barry Jenkins, based on the novel by James Baldwin, the film stars KiKi Layne, Stephan James, and Regina King – October 9

The Invictus Games in Sydney, Australia; this year, the Games will center on a community embrace of wounded, injured and ill veterans, and active-duty military personnel and their family and friends  – October 20 – 27

WE WANT TO CHECK INTO:

The One&Only Nyungwe House resort, on the edge of the Nyungwe rainforest in Rwanda, welcomes its first guests in October. The 23 rooms are designed to fit harmoniously within the natural surroundings. WE WANT A TASTE OF:

Misi, the recently-opened pasta restaurant at Domino Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We’ve already dined at the stylish space created by chef Missy Robbins and her business partner Sean Feeney, and we want to go back! Everything we tried was delicious – and the fettuccine with buffalo butter, solo di bruna parmigiano, and black pepper haunts our dreams. Best. Pasta. Ever.
