While tennis tends to steal the spotlight during the month of September, with events like the US Open, Davis Cup and Laver Cup, there’s plenty of other sports action happening around the world.
Cycling’s Tour of Britain, the start of the NFL season and the NCAA college football season, plus the World Championships in rowing and road cycling, the World Equestrian Games, and golf’s Ryder Cup are all this month. If you don’t want to just watch, but prefer to get in the game yourself, join the Berlin Marathon; head to Switzerland for one of the most beautiful marathons in the world; join in a yoga session at Bhakti Fest; or take a mermaid-inspired fitness class.
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and to raise awareness and funds, the Prostate Cancer Foundation is hosting a PCF Pushup Challenge: participants do 10 push-ups for every $20 they receive in sponsorship funds.
Delta has launched Sweatlag, a do-anywhere workout routine designed to reduce the effects of jet-lag, and inspired by the airline’s A350 aircraft (which is equipped with jet-lag fighting features like LED lighting, wider windows, and improved cabin pressurization).
Cycling’s Tour of Britain kicks off in Pembrey Country Park and Carmarthenshire, with the final stage in London – Sept 2 – 9

The most beautiful marathon in the world may be the Jungfrau Marathon in Switzerland. The mountaintop finish is legendary, and the panoramic views at 2,100 meters above sea level aren’t soon forgotten – Sept 7 – 8
Looking for a slightly less serious marathon? Consider the Marathon du Medoc. In addition to French wine at the aid stations, runners partake in a bucolic loop course through vineyards, accompanied by 8,500 new drinking buddies dressed in hilarious costumes. Expect everything from entertaining acrobats at the start to all-you-can-eat oysters, cheese and ice cream in the last 4K – Sept 8
The US Open Finals take place at Arthur Ashe Stadium – Sept 8 – 9

The 2018 edition of the FEI World Equestrian Games will be held in Mill Spring, NC, over thirteen days at Tryon International Equestrian Center. Disciplines competing include Jumping, Dressage and Para-Equestrian Dressage, Eventing, Driving, Endurance, Vaulting and Reining – Sept 11 – 23
For the first time in Bhakti Fest’s decade long history, Deepak Chopra will be the special guest at this annual yoga festival held in Joshua Tree – Sept 12 – 17
The Evian Championship in France is the one and only major LPGA tournament in continental Europe – Sept 13 – 16
Why use the same old hotel gym when you could be in the pool learning how to be a mermaid instead? That’s the idea behind the Mermazing Mermaid Workout Classes launching at select hotels in Spain, Japan and Mexico. The biannual Ryder Cup takes place in Paris at Le Golf National. Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Webb Simpson are representing the US, while the European team is yet to be named – Sept 25 – 30
