The Best Luxury Fashion and Design Events this September

September is Fashion Month, with Fashion Weeks unfolding in New York, Milan, London and Paris – plus all the amazing parties, new product launches, store openings and other events that accompany them.  

On the design front, there are also several major shows and Design Weeks taking place this month including Paris, Helsinki, Beijing and Vienna.

Berlin, Sydney, Chicago, Paris and Copenhagen host annual art shows.  

For auctions, both Christie’s and Sotheby’s host their annual Asian Art Weeks. Other fun picks for auctions to attend this month include the sale of 60 lots from Sir Rod Stewart, and the 25th Auction for What Goes Around Comes Around.

Fashion

Ukrainian Fashion Week celebrates its 21st year, showcasing spring/summer 2019 collections – through Sept 6

Italiana: Italy Through the Lens of Fashion 1971-2001 from Rizzoli features the works originally displayed at the exhibit earlier this year at Milan’s Palazzo Reale; that great period of “Made in Italy” set the seal on the Italian lifestyle’s leading role in fashion and design – Sept 4

 Louis Vuitton: Catwalk is a cocktail table book filled with two decades of fashion history, told through a sumptuous array of images straight from the catwalk – Sept 4

The Museum at FIT will host Narciso Rodriguez, 2018 recipient of the Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion, and Dr. Valerie Steele for a lively discussion of his design career at Fashion Culture: Narciso Rodriguez in Conversation – Sept 4

Fashion Climbing is the untold story of New York City legend Bill Cunningham’s education in creativity and style – Sept 4

Timed to coincide with NYFW, 29Rooms is Refinery29’s interactive exhibition featuring 29 rooms designed by retail brands, artists, celebrities and other creatives – Sept 6 – 9 and Sept 13 – 16

Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty lingerie line is set to close New York Fashion Week – Sept 6 – 14

Pink: The History of a Punk, Pretty, Powerful Color opens at The Museum at FIT and explores the history of the color pink in fashion and design – Sept 7 – Jan 5, 2019

London Fashion Week returns.  Molly Goddard, winner of the 2018 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, has been commissioned to design this season’s London Fashion Week Festival limited edition tote bag – Sept 20 – 23

Christian Dior opens Paris Fashion Week – Sept 24 – Oct 2

Dior and His Decorators from Vendome Press is the first work on the two interior designers most closely associated with Christian Dior – Sept 25

From the first wristwatch dating to the early 1900s and the first Oyster Perpetual from 1931, to an Explorer worn during Sir Edmund Hillary’s expedition to the summit of Mt. The Chart Art Fair, held within the historic halls of Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, focuses exclusively on contemporary art from leading galleries of the Nordic countries – through Sept 2

The Biennale des Antiquaires is a highlight of the French capital’s art market calendar and epitomizes the essence of the French ‘art de vivre’ – Sept 8 – 16

Sydney Contemporary is Australasia’s international contemporary art fair – Sept 13 – 16

The 13th annual NY Art Book Fair at MoMA PS1 in Long Island City is the world’s premier event for artists’ books, contemporary art catalogs, monographs, art periodicals and zines – Sept 21 – 23

Opening the fall art season each September, EXPO CHICAGO hosts leading international art galleries presented alongside one of the highest quality platforms for global contemporary art and culture – Sept 27 – 30

The newly founded art berlin is a partnership between abc art berlin contemporary and Art Cologne and presents works from 110 international galleries from 16 countries at Station at Gleisdreieck – Sept 27 – 30

Design Conferences and Events

The 7th annual Paris Design Week showcases the work of over 300 French and international designers with exhibitions, lectures and awards – Sept 6 – 15

Maison & Objet Paris is the international interior lifestyle show featuring three major sections: Maison (interior decoration), Objet (concept and retail) and Influences (encompassing luxury, design and architecture) – Sept 7 – 11

China’s international furniture expo, Furniture China, returns to Shanghai with contemporary and traditional designs – Sept 11 – 14

Brand New Conference is a two day event on corporate and brand identity with some of today’s most active and influential practitioners from around the world – Sept 13 – 14

Returning to venues and institutions throughout the city is the London Design Festival, which celebrates and promotes London as the design capital of the world – Sept 15 – 23

Feria Habitat Valencia, the Spanish household design and decoration trade fair, hosts 600 exhibitors, focusing on products made in Spain – Sept 18 – 21

Beijing Design Week takes place Sept 19 – 27

The 4th edition of the Istanbul Design Biennial is being curated by Belgian design critic and teacher Jan Boelen and will focus on how design education can change in the age of information – Sept 22 – Nov 4

Vienna Design Week encompasses all areas of Viennese design, and includes exhibitions and site specific installations around the Austrian city – Sept 28 – Oct 7

Auctions and Antiques

Christie’s hosts the Elements of Style in Hong Kong.  This 4-day event will see the James Christie Room transformed into a lifestyle setting and will feature a selection of jewels, handbags and watches that capture the essence of modern style and craftsmanship – Sept 4 – 7

Over 1,000 works of art will be offered across six sales during Sotheby’s Asia Week, featuring a striking and diverse array of Chinese ceramics, sculpture, works of art, paintings and calligraphy – Sept 7 – 15

Sir Rod Stewart will auction off sixty lots of luxury furniture, art and other fine pieces via Sworders Fine Art Auctioneers in Stansted Mountfitchet – Sept 11
