The month of June has us running full speed into summer, with lots to see and do, including three unique marathon races and two new wellness programs to try out.  The running theme continues, with three major horse races taking place – the Derby Stakes, Belmont and Royal Ascot.  We hope you kept your fascinators on hand after the Royal Wedding!  Other major sporting events taking place in June are the NBA and NHL finals and the kickoff of the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

It’s LeBron’s Cavaliers versus Steph Curry’s Warriors in the NBA Finals the teams compete for the championship for the 4th time – through June 17

The Stanley Cup Finals continue with the Las Vegas Golden Knights taking on the Washington Capitals for Lord Stanley’s Cup.  This year marks the first time ever that an expansion team (Las Vegas) has made it to the final round in its first year of play – through June 13

This year marks the 20th anniversary of “the most difficult marathon in the world” – the Inca Trail Marathon to Machu Picchu.  While the 26.2 miles along rocky Inca trails, tunnels and steps is a true marathon distance, but this race proves to be extra strenuous with gains of 10,400 feet and losses of 11,000 feet in elevation – June 2 – 10

All eyes are back on England yet again at The Derby Stakes at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey takes place – June 2

This month Le Grand Bellevue in Gstaad will introduce an exclusive new 4 night Wild Wellness Experience that will see guests further their fitness as they swim, cycle and run through a series of mountain pursuits, before indulging in balancing wellness experiences, including mountainside massages and a spectacular heli-yoga trip

The 11th annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic returns to Liberty State Park in New York. The yearly event sees celebrities donning their summer best for a sunny day of drinking Champagne, taking in the sport, and stomping the divots – June 2

Only Brazil could make even running a marathon feel like a party.  The Maratona Caixa da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro takes place this month with lively crowds and views of the towering Christ the Redeemer statue to welcome racers across the finish line – June 2

The annual Vera Bradley Classic is the largest amateur women’s golf and tennis charity tournament in the country. More than 2500 guests and volunteers join tournaments held at three separate clubs, including the Sycamore Hills Golf Club and the Wildwood Racquet Club. Yoga enthusiasts kick the event off with Pink Yoga in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana – June 3-4

Will Justify complete the triple crown?  Find out at the running of the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park – June 9

The US Open tournament of the PGA heads to the Hamptons, with its 118th edition being played at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club – June 11 – 17

FIFA will choose the next host for the 2026 World Cup at the FIFA Congress in Moscow. The US, along with Mexico and Canada, is expected to win though Morocco is also in the running – June 13

It’s Australia versus England in England for five one-day internationals and a Twenty20 as part of a busy England schedule in the buildup to hosting 2019’s Cricket World Cup – June 13 – 27

Kicking off in Russia is the FIFA World Cup, with the home team battling Saudi Arabia.  A total of 64 matches will be played in 12 venues located across 11 cities with the final on July 15 at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.  Defending champion Germany returns, while Iceland and Panama will both be making their first ever appearances at the tournament (Team USA didn’t qualify) – June 14 – July 15

World Cup

Still can’t get enough of the Markle Sparkle?  One of Britain’s most well known racecourses, Ascot will hold its special week of races called the Royal Ascot.  Attended by The Queen, this week has become Britain’s most popular race meeting, welcoming around 300,000 visitors over five days, all dressed up in their finest clothes and hats – June 19 – 23

The NBA Draft takes place at 7pm at the Barclays Center and on ESPN.  It’s rumored DeAndre Ayton and Marvin Bagley may go in the first round – June 21

Tarragona hosts the XVIII Mediterranean Games which features 33 sports disciplines and 4,000 athletes from 26 different countries – June 22 – July 1

The Big Five Marathon in South Africa is held among the wildlife of the African savannah. Runners from all over the world will meet in one of the most spectacular Big Five game reserves in Africa – June 23

Chia Laguna in Sardinia has unveiled a series of wellness initiatives designed to improve both body and mind.  Starting in late June, guests can participate in Chia Breathe, a movement and meditation programme, which fuses conscious breathing and spontaneous physical exercises and aims to enhance the individual’s mental and physical health – June 25 – Sept 7
