The 2018 Giro d’Italia is the 101st edition of one of cycling’s Grand Tour races; for the first time ever, a Grand Tour will start outside of Europe (it’s the 13th time that Giro d’Italia will start outside of Italy). Israel will host the first three stages of the 21-stage event, beginning with an Individual Time Trial in Jerusalem, then going on to Haifa and Tel Aviv – May 4 – 27
Denmark hosts this year’s International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships. The lineup of 16 teams includes South Korea making its world championship debut this year – May 4 – 20
The race for the Triple Crown starts with The Kentucky Derby. Often referred to as “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports”, the Derby is the 2nd oldest horse race in America and is run on the first Saturday of May every year at Churchill Downs – this is the 144th running of the race – May 5
The 11th edition of the South American Games will be held in Cochabamba, Bolivia – May 9 – 20
The Preakness Stakes is held on the third Saturday every May at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland – May 19
The English Football Association’s league final, the Emirates FA Cup Final will take place between Chelsea and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium in London. Chelsea is looking to redeem itself from last year’s loss to Arsenal – May 19
If you’re looking for a once in a lifetime race, why not tackle the 5,164 steps of one of the world’s most famous landmarks? The Great Wall Marathon takes place this month. The climb is guaranteed to be intense, but we are sure the dramatic and unforgettable views will make it worthwhile – May 19
San Francisco’s Bay to Breakers, launched in 1912, is the oldest consecutively run annual footrace in the world; the 12K race begins near the Embarcadero and finishes at the Great Highway – May 20
The French Open is the 2nd of 4 Grand Slam events for the year and will take place again on the red clay at Roland Garros. Last year’s champion, Rafael Nadal, returns to defend his title and go for his record 11th French Open trophy. On the women’s side, all eyes will be on Serena Williams as she participates in her first Grand Slam event since the 2017 Australian Open – May 21 – June 10
W Hotels is launching a new fitness and wellness concept called FUEL Weekends by W Hotels to help feed their guests’ passion for staying in shape, in style. The 2018 FUEL lineup kicks off at W Punta de Mita – May 25 – 28
The Prefontaine Classic is one of the premier track and field meets in the United States and takes place this month in Eugene, Oregon. The event draws a world caliber field to compete at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon – May 25 – 26
