With spring in full swing, it’s only fitting that both the air show and sailing seasons also get underway. April kicks off the start of the air show season with multiple events around the world, including the Eurasia Airshow taking place in Turkey.
The start of sailing season brings some big names in yacht shows in Asia, Europe and for the first time in Australia. There are also a handful of nautical races, including Antigua’s Classic Yacht Regatta, as well as its 51st annual Sailing Week.
In luxury automotive, it’s off to the races. From rallies to touring to Formula 1, auto racing kicks into full gear with events in Monaco, Bahrain, Corsa, Shanghai and Baku.
For car lovers, there are lots of auctions and shows this month, including multiple ones in Florida. But the most unique event on the April calendar may well be the Spring Gathering at the London Bus Museum, where there will be a variety of historic buses and coaches on display – and even some opportunities for a trip around town. Awesome.
Air Expos and Shows:
Celebrate 100 years of March Field in California at the March Field AirFest: Thunder Over the Empire – April 7- 8
The thundering sounds of engines that will permeate the tranquil skies above Florida with the arrival of the Vero Beach Air Show – April 21- 22
The global aerospace industry heads to Germany for the ILA Berlin Air Show. More than 1,000 exhibitors, ranging from major corporations to highly specialized suppliers and users, will showcase their expertise in areas such as civil aviation, defense, security and space flight – April 25- 29
The Eurasia Airshow takes place in Antalya, Turkey with a show of aerobatic flying displays as well as earthbound aircraft on display – April 25- 29
Joint Base Charleston Air and Space Expo will display the latest and greatest military and commercial aircraft, both in the air and on the ground. The main event will feature the U.S. Air Force’s elite aerial demonstration team, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds – April 28- 29
Yacht Races and Shows:
Now in its 9th year, Les Voiles de Saint Barth is expected to once again welcome some of the biggest names in sailing, as well as a spectacular fleet of more than 70 sailing yachts. In addition to four days of sailing, the event presents a vibrant social program of live music, DJ sets, live art and cocktails parties – April 8- 14
The four-day Singapore Yacht Show returns to the award-winning ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove, providing an unrivalled opportunity to discover some of the world’s finest superyachts and international boat brands in an elite and highly social setting – April 12- 15
Close to 60 yachts are expected to compete across four days of racing, as people gather in the Caribbean from all over the world to share their passion for classic, vintage and traditional yachts at the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta – April 18- 24
Shining the international spotlight on Australia’s luxury charter yachts and stunning cruising grounds, the inaugural Australian Superyacht Rendezvous will take place this month – April 20- 21
Coinciding with the start of the Mediterranean charter season is the MYBA Charter Show at OneOcean Port Vell in Barcelona. A trade-only event, the show is dedicated to charter professionals and super yachts, and will include yacht-chef competitions – April 23- 26
The Palma Superyacht Show is expected to attract more than 70 yachts to the Mallorcan capital; it’s a great event for those interested in either a charter or a purchase – April 27- May 1
In another industry-only event, the Mediterranean Yacht Show will return to Greece for its fifth edition with a glittering showcase of superyachts. The event takes place alongside the start of the summer cruising season – April 28 – May 1
Now in its 51st year, Antigua Sailing Week is one of the most fun sailing events in the Caribbean, drawing more than 100 sailing yachts from around the world. Every day there is a different race and a new course. Wednesday is the renowned Lay Day Beach Party – instead of racing, the day is spent at a festive beach party – April 28 – May 6
Auto Races:
France hosts the Tour de Corsa; this year marks its 61st running, and Thierry Neuville and Nicolas Gilsoul are the defending rally winners – April 5-8
The World Touring Car Cup stops in the South of France for the Race of Monaco – April 6- 8
The FIA Formula 1 World Championship moves to Bahrain for the Bahrain Grand Prix. Located at Sakhir, 30 kilometers south-west of the island’s capital, Manama, the Hermann Tilke designed circuit contains five track layouts within one complex – April 8
The racing world returns to the Shanghai International Circuit, with its modern track and its stunning architecture, for the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix – April 13- 15
Formula One ends the month in Baku on a layout designed by renowned F1 track architect Hermann Tilke. The historic city center and beautiful seaside promenade provide the perfect backdrop for The Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix – April 27- 29
The FIA World Touring Cup Race of Hungary takes place on April 27-29
Luxury Auto Shows and Auctions:
Celebrated as South Florida’s premier collector car auction, RM Auctions’ Fort Lauderdale sale returns. Previously held under the Auctions America banner, this year’s 16th annual event will see approximately 300 collector cars cross the podium during a two-day sale, ranging from American classics to European sports cars, Detroit muscle, hot rods, customs and modern collectibles – April 6-7
Widely regarded as a barometer of the collector car industry, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auction Palm Beach by Barrett- Jackson has evolved over the years into an automotive lifestyle event, where thousands of the world’s most sought-after, unique and valuable automobiles cross the block both in person and on live national and international television on Discovery Channel and Velocity – April 12- 15
Dallas Market Halls hosts the Leake Collector Car Show & Auction Dallas with 400 collectable cars – April 12- 14
Public transport is in the spotlight at the Brooklands Museum, the home of the London Bus Museum’s 45th Annual Spring Gathering, which will have a wide variety of historic buses and coaches on display, as well as the opportunity for enthusiasts to journey around the locale in some of the classic vehicles – April 15
The Classic Virgins Experience Day takes place at the British Motor Museum and is a popular, hands-on, informative day for people considering buying and owning a classic car. A variety of experts will offer guidance on buying and running a historic vehicle, while the program also includes practical, workshop-based sessions covering routine maintenance and more – April 21
Drive It Day in the UK is a rallying cry (literally) for owners of classic vehicles to show off their cars on the road in an effort aimed at showcasing the UK’s rich and varied transport heritage. The event is organized by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) – April 22
The annual Rotary Club of Croydon Charity Classic Car Run is also run on April 22
The ever-expanding Classic Car Boot Sale takes over Granary Square in King’s Cross, featuring classic vehicles and vintage clothing, most of it sold out of the backs of the historic cars and vans – April 28- 29
