What are the top events in food, wine and craft beer in April?

There’s a lot to feast upon this month in the world of food and drink.  Dig in to April at the World Gourmet Summit in Singapore to get a taste of the world’s lesser known cuisines.   Then head down south for some  good tunes and great food at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

If you’re up something truly unique, stop by the British Asparagus Festival to learn about this history of the spear-shaped veggie.

Ready to wash it all down? Check out the finest vintages the Golden State has to offer at the California Wine Festival.  If beer is more your style, you can try any number of the newest craft brews at New York City’s Craft Beer Festival.

Asia

The region’s most highly-anticipated food and wine festival, World Gourmet Summit, returns for its 23rd year.  Visitors will experience some of the world’s lesser-known cuisines. They’re presented by a lineup of culinary stars representing countries from Asia, Eastern and Central Europe, and America.  This year’s theme is sustainability – Apr 1 – May 12

Every spring the annual Taste of Vail festival in Vail, Colorado attracts more than 30 of the finest local chefs. The festival also attracts owners and winemakers from nearly 50 of the country’s top wineries – Apr 3 – 6

Foodie Con is like Comic-Con but for Foodies. This two-day shopping and educational event in LA allows attendees the chance to meet culinary purveyors. Visitors can also learn about the latest food trends and taste cuisines from hand-selected vendors. Food artisans, local chefs, food trucks, craft breweries, wineries and more will be on-site – Apr 6 – 7

Pebble Beach Food & Wine returns to the iconic strip of the California coastline for the 12th year.  Guests can expect a lineup of more than 100 renowned chefs and 250 distinguished winemakers. And a little golf, too – Apr 11 – 14

Along with good tunes comes great food at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.  The Fest offers a diverse menu from more than 70 food vendors that will tempt seafood lovers, carnivores and vegetarians alike – Apr 25 – May 5

Experience a quintessential California wine tasting and enjoy hundreds of California’s finest vintage wines, delicious gourmet foods samples and lively music at the California Wine Festival – Apr 26 – 27

Every April, the “live music capital of the world” plays host to the Austin Food & Wine Festival.  Among the highlights: 35 cooking demos, plus wine and cocktail seminars – Apr 26 – 28

United Kingdom

The annual British Asparagus Festival includes exhibitions depicting the history of the vegetable, a gardening learning experience, displays and cooking demonstrations and spear throwing.  The most high profile event at the festival is The Great Asparagus Run, where locals, well, run with asparagus – Apr 23 – Jun 21

2. new cookbooks

The Turkish Cookbook ($49.95) by Musa Dağdeviren offers 550 recipes for Turkish food, from hyper-regional dishes to those known around the world.  There are dips, grilled meats, salads and pastries, all made accessible to the home cook – Apr 1

Healthier Together ($25) may seem like a typical 2019 wellness cookbook with recipes that are grain-free and dairy-free in addition to its millennial pink cover.  The twist here, though, is that author Liz Moody links healthy eating to healthy relationships. Its recipes for two to demonstrate how eating healthier is easier and more fun with the help of a partner – Apr 9

Do you love dining out in LA?  Than Eat. Cook. L.A. ($30) by Aleksandra Crapanzano is for you.  The cookbook is a compilation of recipes from Los Angeles’ best restaurants, juice bars, coffee shops, bars and food trucks. Highlights include Wes Avila’s breakfast burrito from Guerrilla Tacos and the lamb chops from Spago – Apr 23

 

3. wine and spirits auctions

Throughout the spring, Sotheby’s Wine is offering 75 limited-edition Versailles Celebration Cases. Each one features five Château Mouton Rothschild vintages in a partnership between Château Mouton Rothschild and the Palace of Versailles.  The cases will be sold across three auctions. First in Hong Kong on April 1, followed by London on April 17 and concluding in New York on May 4. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to help fund restoration projects at the Palace of Versailles – Apr 1, Apr 17 and May 4

Sotheby’s will auction off a Dalmore L’Anima Aged 49 Years, featuring a one-of-a-kind bottle from world-renowned chef Massimo Bottura.  All proceeds from the sale will benefit Bottura’s non-profit organization, Food For Soul, which empowers communities to fight food waste through social inclusion – Apr 25 – May 9
