Get ready to take flight this month down under with air shows in Australia and New Zealand, where you can either watch the action from the ground or take to the sky alongside a skilled instructor. If you prefer water to air, March features multiple yacht races throughout the Caribbean, filled with challenging courses and a sparkling lineup of social activities. On land, this month will see two of the world’s largest auto shows displaying the latest in cutting-edge design and innovation in Geneva and New York City. There are also two events for vintage car lovers. Finally, in auto racing, March marks the start of the Formula 1 season and the kickoff of the 2018 IndyCar Series. So many choices! It’s go time, people.
Air Expos and Shows:
Prepare to soar over Australia with world-class formation displays, thundering warbirds, breathtaking aerobatic solos and adventure rides at Yarram Centenary Of Flight, celebrating 100 years of flying in Yarram (located 2 hours from Melbourne) – March 17
One of the more unique air shows is the Warbirds Over Wanaka at Wanaka Airport, New Zealand. Acclaimed as the largest warbird airshow in the Southern Hemisphere (and one of the world’s top four warbird airshows), this is the event’s 30th year – March 30-April 1
Yacht Races and Shows:
Organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta will welcome a fleet of sailing yachts for three days of racing off the British Virgin Islands; there’s also a rendezvous program for motor yachts – March 8-11
The five day Qatar International Boat Show is one of the most anticipated dates on the super yacht calendar; the show presents motor yachts and a range of luxury brands, and social events are organized to round off each day in style – March 13-17
St. Barth’s second biggest event following the famed New Years Eve celebrations is the annual St. Barths Bucket Regatta. Running for more than three decades, the event is expected to welcome more than 40 super yachts this year – March 15-18
The Taiwan International Boat Show takes place this month; it’s the largest indoor boat show in Taiwan – March 15-18
Featuring more than $1.2 billion worth of boats, yachts and accessories from the world’s leading marine manufacturers, the Palm Beach International Boat Show is not to be missed- March 22-25
Taking place in the warm waters of the British Virgin Islands, the 47th annual BVI Spring Regatta is sure to be one of the highlights of the spring regatta season. This year features a new long-distance race around 64 islands, as well as a new 165-nautical-mile-long Full Moon Race – March 26-April 1
This year’s Spi Ouest-France, the annual keelboat sailing race, will be held at La Trinité-sur-Mer – March 29 – April 2
Luxury Auto Shows and Auctions:
The 88th annual Geneva International Motor Show will feature the latest supercars, including the newest from David Brown. Following the Aston Martin DB4-inspired Speedback GT and the Mini Remastered, the Silverstone-based low-volume car maker is producing a high-performance model to be debuted at this year’s event – March 8-18
For the 20th year, RM Sotheby’s will host the 2018 Amelia Island Sale in Florida at the Ritz Carlton. This year’s event includes an exclusive presentation of ‘A Gentleman’s Collection: The Pride & Passion of Orin Smith’ – March 8-10
The New York International Auto Show will showcase cutting-edge design and extraordinary innovation at the Javits Center; nearly 1,000 cars and trucks will be on display – March 30-April 8
For the ultimate classic car lover, The Four Seasons has launched the classic car experience Road Trip to La Dolce Vita. Enveloped in its old-style glamour, participants can cruise between Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, Four Seasons Hotel Milano and Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat in a 1960 Giulietta Spider, a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Cabrio or a 1956 Porsche 356A Speedster. Fantastico!
Auto Races:
The 23rd annual season opener of the 2018 IndyCar Series will take place at the Firestone Grand Prix in St. Petersburg, Florida; Josef Newgarden enters the season as the defending drivers’ champion – March 11
This year’s Formula 1 season kicks off with the Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne. The season will boast 21 races in total, including stops in France and Germany – March 25
