The Super Bowl, Chinese New Year, the Winter Olympics, Fashion Weeks in New York, Milan, London and Paris – it may be short, but February promises to be sweet. Here’s our Dandelion Chandelier curated overview of the most important events in the global luxury ecosystem this month.

In travel, it’s all about exuberant indulgence, with carnivals in Venice, New Orleans and Rio setting the tone for two weeks of wild parties the world over prior to the start of Lent. This month will also see the hottest day club opening of 2018 (that’ll definitely help ensure that the party keeps going). There are countless over-the-top hotel openings; many are not only luxurious and indulgent, but also come with a side of adventure. Travel to the rain forest in Argentina and live among the trees in luxurious private villas, take a surfing lesson on the volcanic sand beaches of Bali, or ice skate in the Swiss Alps.

For foodies, oenophiles and craft beer connoisseurs, there are some tough choices: Peking duck in Manhattan? A pork-fest in Dallas or Sacramento? Or perhaps a beer festival in Belgium? Or you could get your calçot on in the outskirts of Barcelona. Personally, we’re leaning toward Charleston: warm weather, nice people and great food. Forks in the air!

In Planes, Yachts and Autos, we’re dropping anchor at the elite yacht racing and boat shows this month. The upcoming Superyacht Cup and RORC Caribbean 600 races in Antigua and shows in Miami, Thailand and Dubai have us longing for warm weather, the scent of the ocean, and maritime adventures. However, if you prefer land to sea, there are two major auto shows this month – including the largest in North America – and a classic car show in London. Want to take to the sky? The 2018 Air Race World Championship season kicks off in Abu Dhabi with the Red Bull Air Race. Also taking place in the UAE is the Abu Dhabi Air Expo. And Elon Musk will send a $100,000 cherry-red Tesla into space in the first test of the brand new Falcon Heavy space rocket, the second-most powerful ever built.

The Fitness and Sports calendar is especially jam-packed, thanks to some major world class events, including Super Bowl LII and the PyeongChang Olympics. In addition, there’s a sporting event for almost every taste, from horse races to cycling, running to dog shows. And superstar new mom Serena Williams returns to Tour-level tennis! It’s sure to be a month filled with amazing stories of victory, perseverance and glory.

In the world of fashion and design, the petite month of February brings grand events: Fashion Weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris; museum exhibits exploring the fashion legacies of Gianni Versace and the Royal Family; midcentury modern design auctions and shows in Palm Springs and New York; art fairs in Cape Town, Geneva, Rotterdam, and Madrid; swanky galas; a city-wide celebration of design in Mexico City; and auctions of erotica and meteorites (and possibly even some erotic meteorites).

February’s spectacular Entertainment calendar makes us feel pretty sure there’ll be no sleep ‘till March. The glamorous film awards season takes a small pause in the U.S. as the stars head to England for the BAFTAs.  The Super Bowl and the Olympics are two of this month’s must-see television events, but there are also a few new shows debuting, including Good Girls and The Looming Tower. Classic dramas and musicals return to the stage this month, including Macbeth, Angels in America and Carousel. And for your listening pleasure, Justin Timberlake not only headlines the Super Bowl half-time show, but also drops his latest album. Lastly, if crime-solving is more your thing, there are two new podcasts you need to check out. Plus there are lot of great new books coming in February. Like we said . . . no sleep ‘till March.

Given that February includes a holiday that pays homage to the life of St. Valentine, it’s no surprise that many of the listings on this month’s Arts calendar feature tales of romance and songs of love and seduction.  You’ll find Carmen in London, Romeo + Juliet in New York – and not just one, but two ballets in Paris with the theme of passion and heartbreak.

But perhaps romance isn’t your thing? No worries. There are a number of performances and exhibits focusing on global culture going on this month, too: the Khajuraho Dance Festival in India; Degas in Denver; a Vietnamese artist in New York; and a French art historian’s exhibit in Mexico City, just to name a few. If reading this month’s Travel calendar doesn’t activate your wanderlust, then this month’s overview of the Arts surely will.

On top of all of that, Groundhog’s Day is February 2; Valentine’s Day is the 14th; and President’s Day in the U.S. is the 19th. And in Canada and America, it’s Black History Month, an annual remembrance of important people and events in the history of the African diaspora.

Have a great month, dear reader. Wherever February takes you, we hope you spend at least some of it pursuing your passion.
