Television
Likely to be the biggest new arrival on Netflix this month is Altered Carbon. The sci-fi series is based on the 2002 Richard K. Morgan novel of the same name and follows a man who returns to life after 250 years in a new body to solve a murder. The series stars Joel Kinnaman, Renee Elise Goldsberry, and James Purefoy – Feb 2
Whether you watch for the commercials, the half-time show or the game itself, the Super Bowl is one of the biggest television events of the year. Super Bowl LII is sure to be an exciting one as the New England Patriots will battle the Philadelphia Eagles for the Championship. Justin Timberlake will head the half-time show in his third appearance – Feb 4
If we know anything, the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang are going to dominate much of NBC’s programming throughout the month. Rightly so, as there are countless events to cover and dissect. Equally deserving of screen time are the controversies that notoriously arise throughout the two weeks, which have become almost as much of a tradition as the events themselves (anyone recall a certain figure skater being involved in the assault of another figure skater that eventually was made into an award-winning movie?) Another point of interest: this will be the first Olympic games without legendary sportscaster Bob Costas as NBC’s host; Mike Tirico will take over those duties for the first time this year – Feb 9-25
Following the Olympics NBC will debut its newest series, Good Girls. Christina Hendricks, Retta, and Mae Whitman star as three exhausted, angry moms who rob a grocery store to fix their financial crises – Feb 26
The new Hulu Original series The Looming Tower will debut at the end of the month. The series is based on the Pulitzer-Prize winning book of the same name, and traces the rising threat of Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda in the late 1990s and how the rivalry between the FBI and CIA during that time may have inadvertently set the path for the tragedy of 9/11. Jeff Daniels and Peter Sarsgaard star, with a guest star appearance by Alec Baldwin – Feb 28
