Where are the Best Luxury Pop-up Shops this Holiday?

‘Tis the season for pop-up stores. What’s on tap for holiday 2017, and which ones are worthy of a stop this year, whether you’re planning to buy, or just curious to see what’s happening offline (just to be clear, “offline” refers to a brick and mortar edifice that back in the day was called a retail store). Here’s our Dandelion Chandelier list of pop-ups that are already open or opening soon. Nearly all are in New York City, but some are also in other cities in the US and in London. Not to get you crazy, but one was so exclusive that it’s already come and gone: Chanel’s pop-up, the Coco Club, was open for just one day – on November 12 – and was dedicated to the brand’s Boyfriend watch. The pop-up was at The Wing in SoHo, with three rooms illustrating the value of time, and a numerologist on hand to give personalized readings. C’est la vie. Maybe next year.

Here are the pop-ups that you can still catch:

Victoria’s Secret Pink is opening a pop-up in SoHo called Pink Snowed Inn on Friday Dec 8. The 10-day event is billed as an interactive winter wonderland, with a giant slide and ball pit, “larger than life” photo ops and other experiences.  Guests will receive a gift bag full of exclusive free merchandise and surprises.

Glossier has a pop up running from November 15-22 in London in the Marylebone district — the brand has its own line of exclusive beauty products in skin care, color cosmetics and  sunscreen.

Actor Sean Astin was on hand to celebrate the opening of a Sharper Image pop-up in Times Square. Much of the inventory is drones — so Jordan Temkin, two-time International Drone League World Championship, was also on hand.

Todd Snyder has opened a City Gym pop-up in Manhattan this holiday season at 108 Fifth Avenue with exclusive collaborations like Todd Snyder x Champion jogger sweatpants for $118, and a Todd Snyder x New Era pin-stripe wool Yankees cap for $78.

Yankee Candle is doing its first pop-up in SoHo — it’s called CandlePower, and will be in place from November 9 – January 3, 2018. Visitors will be able to create and personalize their own candles, test their fragrance IQ, and purchase four exclusive limited edition candles evoking the spirit of New York City (we’re really hoping that “Subway in August” is not one of them).

Tiffany & Co is opening two concept stores not far from its iconic flagship on Fifth Avenue — one at Grand Central Station and the other at Rockefeller Center. The stores will offer a selection of jewelry, home and accessories. Both are opening in November and are scheduled to remain for 12-18 months. So if you’re tired of fighting the crowds near Trump Tower to get your Tiffany’s fix, help is on the way.

Louis Vuitton has a pop-up at Brookfield Place in Manhattan running from mid-October until March 31, 2018. You can stop in either before or after you visit the Volez, Voguez, Voyagez exhibit at the nearby American Stock Exchange Building (through January 7, 2018).

Google, in partnership with Victra, opened a New York City  pop-up called Made by Google in the Flatiron District in mid-October and will be at the 110 Fifth Avenue location until December 31. The store carries Google Pixel 2 smartphone with a high-end camera, the Pixel Book, ear buds, and a VR headset called Google Daydream View. The company is introducing seven new products for home and personal use this holiday season. There’s also a pop-up store in Los Angeles.

Kylie Jenner is opening seven pop-up shops for her cosmetics line within Top Shop stores in the US from November 20-December 20. They’ll be in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Houston, Las Vegas, and Atlanta. The last round of pop-ups sold Kylie Jenner branded products like underwear, tee shirts and stickers as well as cosmetics products (lip, eye and face) –the ones opening this month will feature an exclusive new holiday collection.

Maserati is offering a pop-up of sorts at the Shops at Columbus Circle on Manhattan’s West Side — an exclusive display of its new Levante SUV, which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show last year. The vehicle will be on display from November 13 though January 1, 2018.  The car is meant to be “the ultimate expression of luxury utility.” You can sit in it, but sadly, you can’t take it for a test drive around the mall.

YSL Beauty has set up shop on the corner of Broadway and Broome. Visitors can personalize their own Rogue Pure Couture lipstick from October 27-December 31.

Armani Box is Armani Beauty’s first Manhattan pop-up shop; located in SoHo at 490 Broadway, the space is a red-lacquered room filled with its full line of cosmetics. There are products that you can have engraved and personalized, and the unofficial mascot is a giant resin gorilla called Uri (he’s modeled after an actual animal that Mr. Armani rescued from a film set). The store will be open from November 2-December 31, and several beauty bloggers and influencers will be making public appearances throughout the run.

Follain is launching the Clean Beauty Clubhouse, a pop-up at Upper East Side shop Fivestory, with luxury brands like Tata Harper, True Botanicals and May Lindstrom; it will be in place from October 19-January 15, 2018.

We’ve already written about the Valentino VLTN pop-up store in SoHo, which features the highlights from its athletic-inspired resort 2018 collection, along with reinforced concrete, logo basketballs and a punching bag (we love it — you should definitely go before it closes on November 26). There you have it: the latest word on the sparkling, ephemeral pop-up shops this year. Catch them while you can.
