- November is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month – expect to see typically clean-shaven men sporting mustaches this month in support of “Movember”
- World Series Game 7 in Los Angeles between the Houston Astros and the LA Dodgers is not to be missed; both teams have played brilliantly – Nov 1
- The Melbourne Cup, Australia’s most prestigious annual Thoroughbred horse race, is a 3,200 meter race for three-year-olds and over, conducted by the Victoria Racing Club on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria; it’s the richest “two-mile” handicap in the world, and one of the richest turf races. Held on the first Tuesday in November, the event is known locally as “the race that stops a nation” – Nov 7
- The last event of the thoroughbred racing season, the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, comes to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in San Diego, CA for the first time; the annual two-day series of Grade I Thoroughbred horse races was first run in 1984 and is always held in North America – Nov 3-4
- In London, the Killik Cup rugby match will see the Barbarians take on New Zealand’s fearsome All Blacks; it’s a celebration of the 125th anniversary of New Zealand Rugby, and will be the first time the All Blacks have returned to Twickenham since their historic triumph in the 2015 Rugby World Cup – Nov 4
- The ING New York City Marathon hits all five boroughs; as the largest marathon in the world, it’s one of the World Marathon Majors – there were over 50,000 finishers last year, and almost 100,000 applicants for this year’s race – Nov 5
- England will play three Autumn International Rugby Football Union (RFU) test matches, known as the Old Mutual Wealth Series, at Twickenham; they’ll play teams from the Southern Hemisphere, and each weekend includes both men’s and women’s teams (the men will face Argentina, Australia and Samoa) – Nov 11, 18 & 25
- Ireland will play three Autumn International Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) matches (vs South Africa, Fiji and Argentina) at the Aviva Stadium during the Guinness Series – Nov 11, 18 & 25
- The ATP Tennis World Tour Finals men’s tennis tournament, the season-ending event for the best singles players and doubles teams on the 2017 ATP World Tour, will be played at the O2 Arena in London – Nov 12-19
- This year’s Women’s Rugby League World Cup will be the fifth staging of the event; it will be held in Australia, with pool and semi-final matches at Southern Cross Group Stadium in Sydney, and the final at Brisbane Stadium – Nov 16 – Dec 2
- With a fast course that winds through the city’s historic downtown, past the stunning Philadelphia Museum of Art and along the scenic Boathouse Row, the Philadelphia Marathon is one of the country’s premier running events, attracting 30,000 runners and 60,000 spectators – Nov 17-19
- Several of college football’s classic rivalries are played this month:
- Harvard at Yale; California at Stanford – Nov 18
- Ohio State at Michigan; Alabama at Auburn; Florida State at Florida – Nov 25
- The finals for tennis’s 106th Davis Cup, the tournament between national teams in men’s tennis, takes place between Belgium and France at the Stade Pierre Mauroy in Lille, France – Nov 24 -26
- The Necker Cup is a six-day/five-night Pro-Am tennis event hosted by Sir Richard Branson, traditionally held on Necker Island; this year, due to hurricane damage, the event has been moved to Baha Mar in the Bahamas – Nov 27- Dec 1
