  • ADFF is a film festival in Chelsea in New York now in its 9th year; design professionals and those interested in the creative process can see films related to the subject; the event will include a screening of the winner of the AIA I Look Up Film Challenge – Nov 1-5
  • The Service Design Global Conference in Madrid is expected to draw 600 attendees; the focus is on innovations in user experience – Nov 2-3
  • The KIKK Festival is a mix of technology, visual arts, music, architecture, design and interactive media; the 5th editions of the event will be held in Namur, Belgium – Nov 2-4
  • SOFA CHICAGO (Sculpture Objects Functional Art and Design) at the Navy Pier in Chicago is the city’s longest continuously running art fair and the world’s foremost fair dedicated to masterworks of contemporary art and design in all media – Nov 2-5
  • AA Women and Architecture in Context in London is lecture series; this year marks the centenary of women being admitted to London’s Architectural Association School of Architecture in 1917. The gathering is meant to be a forum to discuss new paths for female architects; after the death of Zaha Hadid last March, the academic conference promises to be a timely occasion to explore new paths for female architects who are often edged out of their own profession – Nov 2–4
  • Elizabeth Murray: Painting in the ‘80s will be shown at the PACE gallery on West 25th Street in New York – Nov 2-Jan 13, 2018
  • The flagship Summit conference will be held in downtown LA this year, and requires an application and approval to attend; it draws professionals from the worlds of sports, journalism and film to discuss the creative process – Nov 3-6
  • Richard Serra: Sculpture and Drawings is on view at the David Zwirner gallery in New York – Nov 4-Dec 16
  • Abu Dhabi Art is a platform for international modern and contemporary art and public programs – Nov 8-11
  • The 21st edition of the Paris Photo Fair at the Grand Palais will see 117 galleries from 23 countries presenting photographic works from the 19th century to today – Nov 9-12
  • The New York Art, Antique and Jewelry Show is at Pier 94; on opening night, Lauren Bush Lauren and Sharon Bush will host a benefit for the not-for-profit organization feed– Nov 9-13
  • The Salon Art and Design show at the Park Avenue Armory in New York will host galleries showing historical, modern and contemporary art and design – Nov 9-13
  • Art021 is held in a historic monument, the Shanghai Exhibition Centre, and attracts international arts professionals and top galleries from around the world; the West Bund Art & Design show runs concurrently in Shanghai – Nov 10-12
  • At the Crosthwaite & Gavin Collection event in Geneva, Phillips will host an auction dedicated solely to Heuer watches; on offer will be 49 exceptionally rare Heuer chronographs made between 1962 and 1982 – Nov 11
  • Christie’s Impressionist and Modern Art and Post-War and Contemporary Art auctions in New York will feature Leonardo da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi, as well as works by Warhol, Van Gogh, Picasso, Rothko, Magritte and Miro, several from the estate of Perry and Nancy Bass – Nov 13-16 (viewing from Nov 4-15)
  • Christie’s and de GRISOGONO will present The Art of de GRISOGONO, forming a partnership that will bring to auction some of the world’s most exquisite diamonds; the first item is the largest flawless diamond ever to be offered at auction – a unique necklace suspending a 163.41-carat, D color, flawless, IIA type diamond – the piece will be featured at preview exhibitions in Hong Kong, London, Dubai, New York (Nov 3-6) and Geneva, and offered in the Magnificent Jewels auction in Geneva at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues – Nov 14
  • Bonhams’ Impressionist & Modern Art auction in New York includes Max Ernst’s Ohne Titel (Sedona Landschaft), 1957 – Nov 14
  • Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art and Contemporary Art in New York will see Joan Miro’s La Funambule, 1938; Rene Magritte’s La Response imprevue, 1963; and Jackson Pollack’s Untitled, 1951 among the offerings – Nov 14-17 (viewing from Nov 3-16)
  • At Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels auction in Geneva, the auction house will present the “Donnersmarck Diamonds,” a pair of fancy intense yellow diamonds with aristocratic provenance, at the Mandarin Oriental, Geneva; the set consists of a 102.54-carat cushion-shaped diamond and an 82.47-carat pear-shaped diamond, and are being offered as a single lot with a pre-sale estimate of $9-14 million – Nov 15
  • The 5th annual Hong Kong Art Week will include events at art galleries, private museums and other independently-run spaces, and will feature a charity art walk through 30 local galleries – Nov 15-27
  • Goldin Auctions is offering the 1947 contract signed by Jackie Robinson with the Brooklyn Dodgers that broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball; bidding has already started online and concludes at the Jackie Robinson Museum in Manhattan – Nov 16
  • Art Duesseldorf is a new art fair from the team behind Art Basel; it will take place at the Areal Böhler, a former factory complex now providing light-filled long corridors – Nov 17-19
  • Prospect 4 New Orleans, with the theme “The Lotus in Spite of the Swamp,” is curated by Trevor Schoonmaker of the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University; the event coincides with New Orleans’s tricentennial celebration – Nov 18-Feb 25, 2018
  • Sotheby’s Paris will auction French interior designer Jacques Grange’s eclectic collection – Nov 21-22
  • The Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai at the Shanghai Exhibition Center is in its second year of bringing the best Italian brands and design to the Chinese market — Nov 23-25
  • Christie’s will offer objects and artworks from the personal collection of Claude Monet in Hong Kong at the Convention Center; it’s the first sale dedicated to Impressionism in Asia, and it will be live-streamed so that clients in Europe can also participate. Dear Monsieur Monet will be on view in Paris in September before traveling to Shanghai, Beijing, London and New York. Prices range from $500 to $3 million – Nov 26
  • Christie’s Hong Kong Week Autumn Auctions brings together Asian 20th century and contemporary art, Chinese works of art and paintings, jewelry, watches, wine and handbags; at the Extravagant Jewels auction on the 28th, the house will offer designs by Wallace Chan – Nov 24–29
  • London Art Week will host its first ever Winter event this year – preview Nov 30 by invitation only; open to the public Dec 1 – 8
  • Heritage Auctions holds a Modern & Contemporary Art auction in Los Angeles featuring Wayne Thiebaud’s Three Cake Slices, 2008 – Nov 30

Fashion and Beauty.

  • Louis Vuitton has opened a new 5-story flagship store on Paris’ Place Vendôme, and to mark the occasion has unveiled three new high jewelry collections and new custom jewelry trunk in which to store your treasures
  • Volez, Voguez, Voyagez is a new exhibit exploring the history of Louis Vuitton; the former American Stock Exchange building in lower Manhattan is the site of the show, which will include steamer trunks owned by famous clients of the maison – Through Jan 7
  • Couture Korea at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco will display historic and contemporary fashion from Korea and beyond – Nov 3 – Feb 4, 2018
  • L’Arche de Noé racontée par Van Cleef & Arpels, the whimsical haute joaillerie collection launched by Van Cleef & Arpels, pays homage to the animal kingdom aboard Noah’s Ark. Featuring animal couple brooches, the traveling exhibition designed by set designer Robert Wilson is arriving at Cedar Lake in Chelsea in Manhattan – visits can be booked in advance, and walk-ins are also welcome – Nov 3-19
  • The annual glittering Le Bal des Débutantes at the Peninsula Paris hotel will see 18-year-old Ava Phillippe, daughter of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, making her debut – Nov 25
  • Dresses to Dream About by Christian Siriano is a behind-the-scenes narrative of the creation of the designer’s favorite gowns, from sketch to dress – Nov 7
  • The Italian Gentleman, written by Hugo Jacomet, and photographed by Lyle Roblin, is a lavish guide written during two years spent traveling the length and breadth of Italy, from the foothills of the Alps to the islands of Sicily, documenting the craftsmanship behind Italy’s most elegant gentlemen – Nov 7
  • Wilhelmina, written by Eric Wilson, with a foreword by Patti Hansen, chronicles the modeling agency’s history – how it discovered new talent and launched the careers of numerous celebrities and models, including Anjelica Huston, Beverly Johnson, Isabella Rossellini, Naomi Sims, Zoe Saldana, and Whitney Houston – Nov 14
  • Arab Fashion Week Is the official fashion week in Dubai representing the 22 Arab countries – Nov 15-19
  • The Guggenheim Gala will be sponsored this year by Dior; the pre-party the night before will feature musical guest HAIM – Nov 16
  • Rizzoli’s The Cartier Tank Watch, written by Franco Cologni, celebrates the centennial anniversary of the iconic Tank watch, which revolutionized the art of watchmaking and was one of Cartier’s greatest masterpieces – Nov 21
  • Balmain will partner with Victoria’s Secret to create custom looks for the brand’s annual Fashion Show, to be held this year in Shanghai; a capsule collection named #VSxBalmain will launch in Victoria’s Secret stores and on its website the day after the show airs on CBS – Nov 28
  • The UNICEF Snowflake Ball, an annual black-tie gala, will be held this year at New York’s Cipriani Wall Street – Nov 28
  • VOICES, the Business of Fashion’s annual invitation-only conference, will take place in Oxfordshire at the Soho Farmhouse; speakers will include Karlie Kloss, Dapper Dan, Natalia Vodianova and Sarah Andelman – Nov 29 – Dec 1
