• The last day of the Major League Baseball regular season is Oct.1; playoffs are scheduled to start Oct 3
• The 2017 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe will be raced at Chantilly while its regular home at Longchamp Racecourse is redeveloped; this is the jewel in the crown of French horse racing (France’s answer to England’s Ascot) and part of the prestigious World Series Racing Championship – the race has a purse of €5 million (US$5.9 million) – Oct 2
