September 2017: Travel
Luxury Travel – Top destinations This Month.
- Insiders say this is the perfect month to take a trip to the Venice Biennale – the city will be less crowded, hot and expensive, and the art will be just as brilliant (the Biennale ends on November 26). Stay at the opulent Ca Maria Adele, overlooking the canals in the Dorsoduro neighborhood, home to Venice’s contemporary arts scene. You’ll be just a short walk away from the city’s best galleries and historic landmarks.
- A new rhythm begins in Paris in September with la rentrée, when Parisians return from their vacances, and restaurants, cafes and shops re-open after a month-long break. Shopping is a must, with stores full of the newest fall and winter styles fit for a fashionista’s dream. The fall harvest brings oysters, squash, pumpkin and mushrooms (including girolles and cepes) to the city’s marches. Extend your trip and travel south to Aix-en-Provence for lovely views of the French countryside, excellent wine and menus showcasing the harvest from local farmers.
- New York is a splendid idea for a visit in September. Start in the city and take advantage of the new season’s crisp air, as well as the fashion in stores and on the streets. Visit the MOMA and the Guggenheim and have a cocktail on a rooftop – the new and red-hot Public is a great choice! After a few glamorous days in town, head for the country – the Hamptons and Dutchess County are less frantic and just as lovely as they are during the summer, which makes for a truly luxurious experience.
- Wine lovers have lots of wonderful options as the fall harvest season begins. According to Travel + Leisure, two that are off the beaten track and worth a visit are the Okanagan Valley in Canada for Pinot Noir and Reisling; and Georgia, which has a budding wine scene in Kakheti (just an hour from the capital of Tblisi).
- If you’re not ready to let go of summer and are still in the mood for gorgeous beaches, clear water and maybe even some end-of-season whale watching, head to Madagascar. Stay on the private island of Nosy Ankao at the brand new luxury resort Miavana. There are only 14 villas, all with ocean views and private pools. You’ll have butler service and access to 2 helicopters if you wish to visit a nearby island.

- Delft-inspired tiles and colorful botanical prints distill the Dutch term gezellig, or cozy, in the 274 rooms of the Kimpton De Witt hotel, new to the central Canal Ring in Amsterdam. Its House Bar concentrates on gin, and guests can pick up a bouquet of tulips from the courtyard flower shop
- Segera Retreat in Kenya – owned by Jochen Zeitz – recently debuted its fanciful two-story Nay Palad Bird Nest suite – made from wood and tree branches, it has beds indoors and out and a terrace with 360-degree views where guests can dine and sleep under the stars – and yes, it does look exactly like an over-sized bird’s nest atop a tree
