September 2017: Food & Drink

  • The Sonoma Wine Country Weekend kicks off Labor Day weekend with Sonoma County’s largest charity event, which has raised more than $24 million for local organizations. The annual wine auction is a perennial highlight, as are countless opportunities to experience wineries in the beloved region — from lunches and dinners hosted at Sonoma vineyards, to the “Taste of Sonoma” grand tasting, with more than two hundred wineries pouring thousands of different wines, Sonoma – Sept 1-4
  • Meatopia in London is primarily focused on how to cook various meats over an open flame, including smoky barbecue with a Middle Eastern or North African twist; however, for the first time event organizers are allowing vegetables into the festival, with Yotam Ottolenghi making the case to meat lovers for the vegetable cause – Sept 1-3
  • Coming to My Senses: The Making of a Counterculture Cook is iconic chef Alice Waters’ memoir of her legendary restaurant in Berkeley, California – Sept 5
  • The Chianti Classico Wine Festival is four days of wine tasting, opening on Thursday evening with music in the town of Greve’s Piazza Matteotti. There will also be olive oil, cold nuts and cheese tastings in addition to the local markets and artisan shops in the area. Chianti, Italy – Sept 7-10
  • The Budapest International Wine Festival presents award winning Hungarian wines and will also offer Italian wines and gastronomy this year. Located in the Buda Castle terraces, the event has become a favorite festival to many with the scenic views, concerts, cultural programs and activities for children, in addition to more than 200 wineries exhibiting their products – Sept 7-10
  • The Hudson Valley Wine & Food Fest will take place at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds and is a harvest-time highlight for the New York region. Because it’s a registered farm market, guests can purchase wines, spirits, and craft beers from the producers themselves (and leave their haul at the wine check, all the better to keep tasting). Wine seminars and cooking demonstrations are always highlights, but attendees truly prize the access to New York winemakers themselves, and the opportunity to taste the wide variety of wines and spirits from across the ever-more-popular wine region, Rhinebeck, NY – Sept 9-10
  • The Bourbon Capital of the World will host The Kentucky Bourbon Festival giving bourbon lovers 6 full days of bourbon tasting, delicious food, great entertainment and events for all ages, Bardstown – Sept 11-17
  • Bon Appétit presents the Northwest food and drink festival Feast Portland, which has become much more than a food and drink festival. The “movement” is very much about the enthusiasm and creativity of the Northwestern food scene of Portland and Oregon. Feast also makes charity the heart of the operation, donating to help end childhood hunger in Oregon, with Partners for a Hunger-free Oregon as its exclusive charity this year, Portland – Sept 14-17
  • Foodies unite in the historic venues of downtown Nashville to experience Music City Food & Wine Festival. This fan favorite is the brainchild of Grammy award-winning artists Kings of Leon, world renowned chef Jonathan Waxman and Vector Management producers Ken Levitan and Andy Mendelsohn, and will feature a grand taste, chef demos, BBQ, harvest night and a gospel brunch, Nashville – Sept 15-17
  • Toronto Beer Week is a series of events dedicated to the advancement of the craft beer movement, showcasing authentic beer by the talented brewers who create and celebrate them, Toronto– Sept 15-23
  • One of the world’s largest fairs, the German Beerfest Oktoberfest, attracts close to 6 million people every year. The event started in 1810 as a wedding for the Bavarian crown prince Ludwig to Princess Therese from Saxony-Hildburghausen and was attended by the local community, creating a festival that would be repeated at the same time the following year, Munich – Sept 16-Oct 3
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner . . . Life! Recipes and Adventures from My Home Kitchen by Missy Robbins with Carrie King will be published by Rizzoli – Sept 19
  • The Rioja Wine Harvest Festival brings thousands of wine enthusiasts together to drink hundreds of gallons of some of Spain’s best wines. Red, white and rosé wines are combined with regional cuisine and tapas for this Spanish festival in the capital of the Rioja region, Logrono – Sept 21-25
  • The Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival will feature hundreds of wines on the lawn of Marble House for the Grand Tasting, in addition to celebrity chef appearances, cooking demonstrations, dinners and VIP events throughout the weekend, Newport, RI – Sept 21-24
  • Mario Batali is just one of many special guest chefs at the Greenwich Wine + Food Festival. Kathie Lee Gifford will be there and Train will perform – Sept 22-23
  • The 63rd Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival Galway attracts more than 20,000 oyster lovers each year. Having started in 1954, it’s one of Europe’s longest-running food festivals and is celebrated with different events the whole family can enjoy, Galway City, Ireland – Sept 22-24
  • La Fête de la Gastronomie in Paris is France’s annual food festival, offering culinary events including cooking classes and one-off tastings in top restaurants to celebrate the gastronomy of France – September 22-24
  • The LA Chefs for Human Rights Dinner is a fundraiser to benefit the Program for Torture Victims (PTV) – Sept 25
  • The Joy of Sake celebrates the world’s finest sakes at the Metropolitan Pavillion, featuring more than 400 premium labels of sake from Japan along with the best in traditional and contemporary Asian cuisine from some of the New York’s finest restaurants, NY – Sept 27
  • Fulton Market Harvest Fest brings together some of Chicago’s finest culinary talent for three days of pop-up dinners, food and beverage classes, cooking demonstrations, craft beer tastings and live music, celebrating the city’s fantastic culinary culture – Sept 30 – Oct 1
