August 2017: Food & Drink

  • At the annual Maine Lobster Festival in Rockland, ME, 20,000 pounds of lobsters will be consumed; there’s also live music, a parade and contests – Aug 2-6
  • One of the hottest food events of the year, the Wilderness Festival in Oxfordshire, England combines woodland walks, feasts around the campfire, swimming, and a top-notch music line-up (Bonobo, Grace Jones and Two Door Cinema Club) with fine wines and bespoke menus from Yotam Ottolenghi, Nuno Mendes and Thomasina Miers – Aug 3-6
  • Happening alongside the International Festival and the Fringe, the Edinburgh Food Festival features street food stalls, a chef’s theatre, restaurant tents and a vintage cider tent – Aug 4-6
  • The 35th annual Wilton Blueberry Festival in Wilton, Maine – Aug 4-5
  • The Joy of Sake in Honolulu, HI is the world’s largest sake celebration outside of Japan, offering the opportunity to taste 370 premium sakes in peak condition; sakes reflect every brewing region and style in Japan, with a rising number from U.S. brewers – Aug 4
  • The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation 13th annual gala in Bridgehampton, A Hamptons Happening, features food from 40 restaurants – Aug 5
  • The Iowa State Fair is one of the largest in the US, attracting more than a million people from all over the world seeking a taste of the authentic Midwest experience – Aug 10-20
  • The Copenhagen Cooking & Food Festival is an annual event celebrating the culinary culture of Copenhagen, and Denmark as a food country – Aug 18-27
  • The Isle of Wight Garlic Festival celebrates Britain’s most pungent garlic; it’s not just garlic bulbs, though: you’ll also find garlic fudge, ice cream, popcorn, biscuits, scones, sweetcorn, and mushrooms – be sure to get a selfie with the Garlic Queen – Aug 19-20.
  • The 18th annual Fete du Cassoulet features sports, music and over 40,000 cassoulets in Aude, France – Aug 23-27
  • Eat Drink SF is San Francisco’s premier food, wine and spirits festival celebrating the Bay Area’s world-class chef’s and restaurants– Aug 24-27
  • The 7th Annual Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival showcases over 200 wineries, Michelin-starred restaurants, and James Beard Award winners providing tastings, cooking demonstrations, dinners and book signings – Aug 25-27
  • The Big Feastival in Kingham, UK in the Cotswolds is a music-and-food festival with the likes of The Cribs and Ella Eyre sharing the spotlight with Jamie Oliver, Nathan Outlaw and Gizzi Erskine, in addition to popular street food trucks. Masterclasses, an RAU vegetable patch and a vintage funfair will also be part of the celebration – Aug 25-27
  • The River Cottage Summer Festival is a weekend of music, masterclasses, foraging, pop-up restaurants, street food and local ciders – Aug 26-27
  • At Blackberry Farm in Tennessee, chef Daniel Boulud pays tribute to the late Sam Beall with demonstrations and dinner – Aug 27-30
  • If you’re looking for a food fight, La Tomatina is an annual citywide tomato-throwing festival in Bunol, Spain that started in 1945; for one hour, participants will be able to launch tomatoes at anything and anyone in sight – within designated “tomatina zones.” An unusual side event is the palo-jabón, a soapy pole with a Spanish ham on top; whoever can make it to the top gets the ham. Pro tip: for optimal fun, wear something white – Aug 30
  • The Best In The West Nugget Rib Cook-Off is in Sparks, Nevada – Aug 30 – Sept 4
  • The American Royal World Series of Barbecue® will be held Labor Day weekend at the Kansas Speedway – Aug 31 – Sept 3
